I am chiming in late here but want to put in plug for Hellsgate SP in Lewiston. One of our top 5 SP 's in the NW.
An enjoyable little day-trip: cross over to Clarkston, follow the road south through Asotin (do not head up the hill to Anatone) and follow the Snake on the Washington side as far as it'll take you. It's maybe 20 miles. Very scenic and remote.
Another beautiful day triip, but longer: at Asotin DO take the road up the hill to Anatone and keep going toward Enterprise and Joseph in NE Oregon. Drop dead scenery in Grand Ronde River canyon country and the Wallowa Mts. near Enrerprise.
