ISO a great campground on water east coast or great lakes

Last spring we traded in our popup camper and bought a new Jayco 28BHBE. It has been an awesome purchase and so far we have gone to DC, Upstate Michigan and around home here near Cincinnati Ohio. This coming season we are planning to hit the Disney World campground and have a trip planned up to Acadia Maine. We have one more 9 day block of time at the end of June we need to fill. We have 3 kids ages 9, 12 and 15. We love to be on bodies of water where the kids can play and hubby can fish. I like sites that are right on the water so I can sit back and look at the water and relax. Playgrounds are a must because of my youngest. I was hoping some of you might have some places you can recommend that are right on the water that the kids would love. Bonus points for Good Sam discounts or military discounts :) I appreciate any input :)

  • Hunting Island SP, which is on the Atlantic Ocean outside of Beaufort, SC is fabulous. It's a SP, so $30/night. Water/electric only, but 2 dump stations within the park. As the crow flies, about a mile from Parris Island, but on the road, about 10 miles.

You may have trouble finding a spot this late, at least one that is close to the water, but even the ones in the very back, you are less than a 5 minute walk to the sand. This puts you closer to the playground. Bikes are plentiful, kids are plentiful, lots of trails, some good kids programs, but you have to drive out to the park office at the pier (about 3-4 miles away).

It is about 1/2 way between Charleston and Savannah, so a great place to do day-trips from.
  • Look at Myrtle Beach State Park if that area is close enough for you. Sites have water/electric and maybe some with full hookup. Not directly on the water but within walking distance of a lengthy beach. Best of all is DH will have a very nice pier for fishing (when we were there it was no charge for campers).

Closer - try Straits State Park at St. Ignace MI. Water will be chilly but lots of water views there. Also you can take the jet boats to Machinaw Island for a day of biking or horse riding. My children always loved going there.
  • Sounds to me like Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach is right for you guys. The kids will love it. They have spots on the ocean but the dunes are between you and the water.

Check out Ocean Lakes website. The webcam is always fun. Call soon because they stay pretty busy in the summer.
  • For the end of June, I would suggest going South.
A long drive from Ohio but I would suggest the Outer Banks in NC or Myrtle Beach in SC.
A bit closer is Ocean City, MD or the Delaware Beaches but the water will still be pretty chilly.
