I've heard it's a first class place that was opened by the guy that started the History Channel.

It probably is more than enough for two weeks. Our last trip through Colorado started in Manitou Springs and a visit to the Garden of the Gods. Next stop was Buena Vista and the Collegiate Peaks area where we visited the re-inhabited Ghost Town of Saint Elmo. From there we stopped at Montrose and visited the Museum of the Mountain West and Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. From Montrose, we went South to Cortez and visited Mesa Verde National Park. Our last stop in Colorado before heading South into New Mexico was Durango with a side trip to Silverton.

We were in Durango and Ouray in Sept this year. We stayed at Alpine Rose in Durango for a week. It is a few miles north of town great views the train goes by each day. We have also stayed at Lake Vallecito at Blue Spruce Campground about 15 miles from Durango a little isolated but a nice park. The train ride to Silverton was great,but if I had to do it again I would take the bus one way it was along day but wll worth it.I you play golf the city course in Durango is great. Trip to Mesa Verde is well worth it. We drove the million Dollar hwy to Ouray it was quite a drive I could see anything because I had to concenrate on the road. It sure save a lot of time then driving the long way around thru Dolores and Telluride. We stayed in the Koa in Ouray. It is one the nicer ones we have stayed in. We opted to take a jeep tour and I'm glad we did the guide was great and I was able to enjoy the ride. Our stay in Ouray was great we will be returning in the future

Absolutely, don't miss the train ride at Durango. Also, while in Ouray, whether you rent a jeep, or take a 4x4 guided tour, be sure to go up to Yankee Boy Basin. This is a spectacular view of the area.

A detour off I-25, after entering New Mexico, just off I-25, Sugarite Canyon State Park by Raton is a neat area. And a short drive from Raton is the Capulin Volcano Nat'l Mon't.
A Neat Place. ------ But no Camping

Between Raton & Las Vegas, Not far S of Springer, just off I-25 is Fort Union Nat'l Mon't.

At Las Vegas (older place than the one in NV) Storrie Lake State Park, but we have used the Walmart there to do a few overnights.

Off I-25 between Santa Fe & Las Vegas, Villanueva State Park. It is off the 25 a bit. Somewhat off the beaten path. However, one can use NM 3 to cut down to the I-40 from Villanueva. We did that one visit.

There is much to see & do in the Santa Fe & Bandelier Nat'l Mon't area of New Mexico -A Trip Report last summer.

Bandelier Nat'l Mon't is off US 285. We were there in August last year. Not too hot at all. Cools off quickly after sundown each evening. I believe we were there years ago in July. Warmer during the day, but cool nights.

Los Alamos is a very neat small city in itself. Free bus system with very neat buses. Very pretty setting up in the high country. Somewhat of a gated community as well. We only drove through & stopped at a SuperMarket. A nice town. http://www.visit.losalamos.com/

Or in Texas: Near Amarillo: Never been to the state park either, but have read about it & would like to make it over there someday. Palo Duro Canyon State Park as well as Caprock Canyons State Park, from what I have read, seem like very neat areas to see.

Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway would make a neat place to check out. One I would like to see. For perhaps a neat experience, Copper Breaks State Park near Quanah sounds pretty cool.

The Indian Ruins, Air Force Academy and do what I did; drive Pike's Peak. You'll remember the drive the rest of your life. Make sure your brakes are in really good order and that your cooling system is up to a beating.

Stayed at Riverside RV resort about 14 miles north of Durango off CO 550 for 6 nights mid summer. We opted for the "pricey" riverside site and loved the site/view out the back window. Nice park, amenities and well run but the sites are tight. We took a 4 wheel tour above Silverton one morning and took the afternoon train back to Durango. If you have the budget for it I recommend both. Mesa Verde was well worth the drive. The drive to Ouray and visit to the town is a nice day trip too. We have friends in Farmington which is 50 minutes south of Durango and they took us to the Aztec NM ruins. You can actually walk through much of the ruins there. Monument Valley is probably about a 2-1/2-3 hour drive from Durango in toad so do that if you can. We'll be back as the 4 corners area has lots to offer.
