I have seen numerous posts in the past on whether reservations are needed. There are always multiple responses from people that state something like " we have been camping xx number of years, never made reservations and always found a spot", What are those people doing in a situation like this?
We are doing this now, and I wanted to do a couple of weeks in the Ft Myers area in January. We started looking in early December and found that the reasonably priced places are full. So, if you want to spend $70-$120 a night, you won't have a problem. The other option is to call around daily to see if there have been any cancellations and be prepare to bug out to grab an empty space.
The advice I got about "Florida without reservations" was to be flexible. That was some excellent advise. If you have to be somewhere during a certain time, have that set up in advance. - linnemjExplorer

Good luck with Ft Meyers all sold our months ago when I looked

Hopefully leaving in a week and this gives us some good info to go on! :)
- sweetnoniExplorerWE are at SEa Shell Carefree RV resort east of Punta Gorda. Nice, quiet, don't know if any vacant spots though.
- avanExplorerCollier Seminole SP has been closed to camping since September and will remain so at least into March 2016 while they upgrade the cg.

Not a big fan of Naples overall. Collier Seminole is our choice Naples

You should be able to find cgs in the Naples and Ft Myers area. You are, however, a bit short on providing information that would be helpful. Like what season you're planning on and what year to plan to come on down.
If you are visiting from mid-April to November/December you should have no problem. OTOH, if you are thinking about staying in one location "in season" - January, February and March, you should be thinking 2017 and out. If you are looking for this winter season, 2016, you still should be able to find sites but perhaps not within the parameters you state - "Park the fiver, relax..." At this late date you'd probably have to make one or more park changes and within the park perhaps some site changes during the stay. If you remain flexible, you should not have a problem. A site change within the park can probably be done in 15-20 minutes and a park change involving the short distances here, in an hour or so. When calling a park, indicate your willingness to accept site moves within your desired stay dates.
Sorry! We will be leaving around the second week of January 2016. - ct1964upsExplorer

Looking for a nice quiet place to park our 5th wheel for a few days in Jacksonville and then 2 to 4 weeks in/around Ft. Meyers/Naples and do nothing. Park the fiver, relax, maybe some sight seeing, maybe some beach time. What's out there seeing as we have never been that-a-way?!

Riht at the Ga/Fla line at exit 1 in Ga is a great little campground...Country Oaks...has about 45 sites in it..close enough to Jacksonville but not crowded..Chuck - LadyRVerExplorer IIAt Thanksgiving, I went to Woodsmoke Camping in Ft. Myers. Really enjoyed it
And day trips out to interesting places.
For Christmas, I just got back, went to Stagecoach RV Park, about 7 miles from St. Augustine. Enjoyed going there, too. - avanExplorerYou should be able to find cgs in the Naples and Ft Myers area.
