Jalama Beach County Park In California

I have been to Jalama a few times in a 24' Class C and I could fit anywhere in the park. This next trip I am taking a 27' Airstream TT and I am concerned about dragging my rear bumper as I go up the hill to a site at the very top.

I plan to remove the weight distribution bars from my Equalizer hitch before going up the hill, so that will drop the front down an extra inch or so.

I know I can fit in the site itself, but the Airstream has such a low profile I am concerned about dragging the rear end. Anyone been there with a similar trailer and go to the top of the hill?

Thanks
  • I would be more concerned pulling a 27' TT on Jalama Road from Hwy 1 into Jalama. You may want to check this more closely. :E :h
  • Thank you for the heads up, several years ago that road was disintegrating. It used to be really rough with landslide road fall off and down to one lane in several spots.

But sometime in the last ten years they fixed the road.
I was there last year and it is a full two lanes all the way and pretty smooth, you still have to drive slow, something like 35mph.

Also, I got my answer on another Airstream forum from a guy with the exact same trailer as mine and he said the area I was concerned about was not a problem.

    Have a great summer camping........
  • If you go to the top using the road that goes thru the Elect only level you shouldn't have any problem.
  • That county road is horrible and the driveway in the park to the top level is so outrageously steep I don't think you can make it.:B :W

Actually, the county road overall is just another example of Cali Roads. The first half is not bad but the last half from the last 10 MPH curv to the summit by the tracks is quite a shaker. Driving the Al-Can was smoother.
