Kentucky Camping

My wife and I are looking to do a couple weeks of camping in Kentucky this summer.Just wondered if anyone has camped there and could recommend a few campgrounds? Any help would be appreciated. We are going sometime in May or June.
  • Natural Bridge. It has two State campgrounds and a chair lift up and back to the parking lot to the bridge. Very beautiful and scenic.

    Kendall...yes Kendall has trout fishing.
  • Agree that Kentucky has some great state parks. We have only "camped" in two of them: Kentucky Dam in the western part of the state and Barren River, kind of south central I think. Both of these are on or near lakes.

Here is a link to find more about state parks: KY state parks

We have also stayed at Kentucky Horse Park north of Lexington.
  • Kentucky has some nice state parks and also Forest Service and COE Campgrounds. We have stayed at Carter Caves and Boonesboro State parks. They have water and electric. We have also stayed at Canal Campground at LBL.
  • Shhhhhh.... Dog Folks!! Lets keep Kendall a secret! Besides, it is filling up for the summer already . ;)

Twin Knobs is a nice campground on Cave Run Lake. It's east of Lexington, KY about a 100 miles.

Green River Lake CG might be an option.

There is the Kentucky Horse Park which doesn't have fishing but it does have horses which is better, IMO!

Cumberland Lake State Park has camping.

Red River Gorge is a beautiful area too.

    Have fun!
  • Boonesborough is a very popular, busy place during the summer. There are activities at the campground. You might consider General Burnside Island State Park campground in just south of Somerset. It has many good sites with full h'ups, amenities including boat ramps, 18 hole golf course and good places to ride your bikes. Close to the Smokies as well.
  • We are mainly looking at the central part of the state.I checked the forum an only found info about Dale Hollow. We are wanting a little more quiet, like I said earlier we like to fish, ride our bikes around campground and take short walks. We are not real active at our age mainly looking for a relaxing time. One of the places we are looking at is Fort Boonesborough.
  • Did you search this Forum for Kentucky in the RV Parks section?
  • I live there. What do you like? Preferences? Location? I can give you a good start
