- craigtExplorerHuntington Beach State Park is at Murrell's Inlet.
Nice park with easy access to the beach. - RoyBExplorer IIWe always go to LakeWood in Myrtle Beach because my sister has a cabin there. I have stayed in their cabins most of the time but they do have a few camp sites in one area. Its just a short walk to the beach.. Never been there this early in the season however...
Roy Ken - MrMuffinExplorerThanks all. We won't be there until after this weekend.
- tatestExplorer III was wondering about those recommendations, as the Charleston I knew had no nearby beaches where camping would have been tolerated. Charleston is in an large estuary, you have to get around that to get back to ocean shore where beaches would form. To the south, Folly Beach is quite upscale, mostly private property, with limited public access. To the north, Isle of Palms has a county park for public access to the beach, where you can pay to park a RV, but you can't really camp there.
There's about 70 miles of good beach from Southport to Murrells Inlet, 30 miles of it great beach around Myrtle Beach, but Charleston is 100 miles away from the center of that. Next major beach area to the south is Hilton Head, about 100 miles from Charleston to that one.
Charleston is not a bad day trip from Myrtle Beach, but when living on the beach, any day free, it had to be a choice, go to Charleston or go to the beach. - TerryallanExplorer IIJust so you will know. Hunting Island is NOT close to Charleston. It is over 2 hours away.
And Edisto, is NOT real close either, It is over an hour from Charleston. So if you want to go to Charleston. Those 2 places are not options.
Reality is. There is no oceanfront camping at Charleston. But there are several good CGs not far out of town. James Island, Mount Pleasant KOA, Oak Plantation, and Mount Aire. IF you want to be within easy driving. I'd pick one of those. - TerryallanExplorer II

Good luck getting a beach front site 2 days before a holiday weekend.

I doubt even the private parks in Myrtle Beach will have any sites on the beach. It is a holiday after all.
they will this weekend. It's Atlantic Biker week in Myrtle Beach. Campgrounds are never full, and some CGs even advise against coming down because of the event. We went TWICE. First, and Last time all in one trip. Traffic is horrible. It took us over an house to drive from Myrtle Beach Travel Park to Barefoor Landing, About 2 miles. NEVER again. - KreaseExplorer

x2. You better take anything you can get with this short of notice. For Hunting Island at least, you'll be lucky to get anything at all. I've been watching their reservation site for a few weeks, and trailer sites do pop up, but it's usually for one random day during the week and it stays available for all of a few hours. And none on the beach have popped up.
That being said, good luck! Hunting Island is paradise, one amazing place. - the_happiestcamExplorerGood luck getting a beach front site 2 days before a holiday weekend.
