Louisiana recommend parks

Any parks that are recommended more than others? I have already been to Sam Houston. Thanks
  • We were in that area during storm Patricia. Fontainebleau State Park was the only one open the first night of our arrival. Tickaw was flooded and closed. We moved on to Palmetto Island SP and were immediately enthralled. What a nice park!!! Now we hit it at the end of Oct. Loved it. Toured the Tabasco plant on Avery Island and had a great time. In town of Abbeville is Shucks. Great place. At first I saw the outside and thought, Oh, another tourist trap with high prices and low quality food. Seeing that we were out of towners, the owner introduced himself and made meal suggestions. We are NOT spicy food eaters and told him that. He guided us to some of the best food we've had on a trip. Gotta go!!!
  • Any recommendations of sites to see, I wanted to eat at The Shed but not sure what else to do, Distillery, house tours? Thanks

I haven't decide on a park yet, just basing it on what to do in that area.
  • Most LA State Parks sites are of reasonable size and similar to Sam Houston Jones as to foliage between sites.
  • We stayed at Poche's in Breaux Bridge. Clean, quiet and good fishing. Heart of Cajun country. If I lived there, I'd weigh 500 lbs.
  • Just got back from New Orleans. We stayed at Fontainebleau SP. It is on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Very nice, quiet, and clean. we also stopped in at another state park just west of there. It is on the river and had some high water. It was smaller but seemed very nice.
  • How are the sites over there, are they open to the neighbors or some foliage in between? Thanks
  • Sam Houston is one of the older parks, try the newest ones; Bouge Chitto, Palmetto Island, Tickfaw,Lake Fausse point,
