MH or TT

The ability to separate the tow vehicle from the camper is probably the biggest factor. Second is the need for a toad or not with a motor home. Third is simple economics. What can you afford. And 4th, what do you do with truck, motor home, and / or trailer when not camping. These issues usually drive what we purchase, no right or wrong, just fulfilling and accommodating each individual need.

I have owned both and I found that with the MH I missed not having my truck with me because of the tools I carry in it. We had a toad anyway so decided to part with the MH and toad and go back to TT. I also was not fond of the road noise and not legally having to have the family belted in while in transit (constant fighting with them about it.) The trucks only option is for seatbelt use.

We have a 25ish foot motorhome now/no toad and prior had a van/19 foot travel trailer.

We both vastly love the motorhome over the trailer. The rv is used like a roving hotel.

It can be inconvenient to have to go and and food shop or site see in the motorhome but we tend to move a lot anyway. I don't like to sit one place for a long time unless there is lots to do (hiking trails or diy hiking).

You shouldn't leave out a truck camper too. With it's higher ground clearance and 4wd it lets you go places that neither a MH or TT can go. You do lose space, but still have a comfy place and all the amenities.

I think a lot will depend on usage. We boondock often on BLM land, our recreation tends to be rockhounding and exploring ghost towns/ruins. We drop off our TT and take our truck exploring.

A MH and a Jeep Wrangler as a toad would suit our purposes as well.. however when I was looking at MH's I couldn't find one in a size that would fit in our driveway (25' max OAL) AND be able to tow our Jeep safely. So a small TT and RAM 1500 suited out specific goals the best..

Thanks for the quick replies. Although I like TCs the climb in is more than the DW desires. The ol' Runny Duck is only 24' so we too go toadless. I've got an 2006 Grand Cherokee w/ tow package that is low miles and great shape for a tow vehicle if I go that route. If I bought a trailer it would have to be nice enough for the wife and still rugged enough for at least mild off road use. Sorta leaning away from a PUP although we've used one before. IMHO not practical for roadside overnights.

If a pup is okay, but not good for roadside overnights, how about a hybrid. You can get them that are not much larger than a pup, but then they expand out and you have lots and lots of room, you can open all the windows/sides and have expansive views. It's not as much of a commitment $$ wise as a MH and can easily be towed by your G Cherokee (probably, but check the weights). A TT is going to be limited in size by your tow vehicle.

I like a motorhome for traveling, everything is accessible while on the road. Especially when you're sitting in a several hour traffic backup.

If you're staying at a location for long periods, I think a TT is a better choice.

We park the trailer and take the truck on 4WD roads to the trailheads -- so a motor home would not be able to handle those roads. But you could tow a little jeep and do the same thing, I think.

We full timed for six months in a tt. We switched to a class A and have been full timing an additional two years.

The A/wrangler combo is way better for us than the F250/tt combo was. The jeep takes us where the class A can't go and where an F250 would get stuck.

We aren't thinking of going back to a tt unless we give up full timing and find one that can be pulled by a jeep.
