Mirror Lake CO

I was just looking for info on Gunnison mirror lake . since eureka is now charging to dry camp . We are taking 4 kids to do some 4 wheeling have always camped at eureka and rode the trails . A man told me one time that mirror lake was real good . Has anyone been there and what was your opinion of it .
  • I just looked at Mirror Lake on Google Earth. Type in 'Mirror Lake, Colorado'. The image is only a few months old. If you click on 'Panaramio' on the left side of the Webpage, still pictures taken by Visitors can be clicked on and viewed. Then, you get a good Armchair sense of the area.
  • Consider Taylor Park. The road from Cottonwood pass down to the Lake and several other areas have tons of dispersed camping right on the trails. There are more trails there than you could ride in a month. We enjoy going there at least a couple times a year. Also our new favorite destination is Grand Lake Colorado. Outstanding riding and good camping as well.
  • Well I am not sure which one I want , I have always gone to silverton
but now with 10 dollar charge to dry camp looking for good atv riding spot . I talked to a guy at camp one night he was telling me about a place near Gunnison had a lake great trails and lots of wild life. We are taking 4 grandkids may be all the wild life I need :))) thank yall for all the help will look it to them. May just be safe and just pay 10 per night . at east I know the area .
    Again Thank yall

  • Mirror Lake cg has only 10 sites with an average parking apron of 13' X 32'. It is a rough and tumble kind of cg and the views are fabulous. I would recommend you get a MVUM (Motor Vehicle Users Map) for the roads and trails you can use. Hopefully, the Gunnison's MVUM is on-line but if not ask the Front Desk person for one (should be free at the desk).
  • I think the area you are talking about is Taylor Park, ~30m North of Gunnison. Mirror Lake is through TP to Tin Cup and another 5m or so. This is a great atv'ing area. Get the Charles Wells book on this area for the atv trails available. Also some great trails over near Crested Butte that you can trailer to. Camping is as said above. There is an atv park with hook ups at TP, but as said there are lots of dry camping areas.
  • We spend a week camping down stream from Mirror Lake. This is a busy area for ATVs and camping spots are some times hard to get. There is USFS campground at Mirror not very big-- nine sites I believe. Didn't see any sites that I thought were big enough for our TT (28 ft).

There is dry camping along the road from Taylor Park Trading Post to Tincup. Also the three mile road from Tincup to Mirror Lake has dry camping along it. Again these may be full. The road from Tincup up is rough but doable. Tincup pass was still snowed in two weeks ago so didn't get over to St Elmo. Lots of ATV trails in the area.

Mirror Lake is a small lake with fairly good fishing it is at the base of Tincup Pass. If you are a four wheeler Taylor Park has a lot to offer. You should be find a spot to camp somewhere up there.
Check out the Gunnison NF web site there NF campgrounds north of the Trading post where you can ride atvs out of. Lake View campground is just south of the trading post but no atvs are allowed.

We have been up there three times now and it is be coming one of our favorite areas.
