I'm looking for suggestions on a clean, quiet campground around Monterey Ca. Within 15-20 miles. Just the wife & myself, no pets. I'm driving a 36" class A towing a HHR. Looking for all the typical amenities, Wi-Fi, etc. I would consider just full hookups as a option at the right park. Any suggestion's would be appreciated. We plan on being in the area around the 12th-19th of Sept. Other than the aqarium, what attractions would be worth seeing. I'm not interested in going north to the bay area. Wireman

We stayed at the Marina dunes RV park just north of Monterey. Really nice park but a little pricey.I would suggest checking out Point Lobos State Reserve, 17 mile drive around Pebble Beach, and also the a town of Carmel while in the area. A drive south thru Big Sir would also be worth the time.

Hey, Murrieta! We retired out of Temecula! We spent a couple of weeks at Betabel RV Park located just off of 101 between Salinas and Gilroy a year ago today! Very nice park. (We prefer the older section with trees, but none interfered with satellite reception.). Easy drive over to the coast. We drove through other parks closer to the coast, including many previously mentioned. Betabel is still our first choice. I believe Marina was the park where many of the RV sites also had another tent site located at the back of the RV site. Wrong! The RV park's entrance at Laguna Seca was lawsuit STEEP! We don't use KOA's but we had used the one at Moss Landing when it first opened and was not KOA. Off season, when the rates drop substantially, and when the park should be less used, it would be fine. When full, as reviewers have stated, you are pretty well packed in. We may well be back at Betabel the last week in Sept.One of the coolest things we did was to drive the dinghy north to Felton and take the Roaring Camp train ride. Henry Cowell State Redwoods Park is right next to it - park there for both.

Try the Monterey County Parks/Laguna Seca, entrance is steep but not that bad.Nice campground.

I also recomend Laguna Seca, but it looks like there are SCCA Regionals the weekend you arrive. So there may be restrictions and/or tickets required. But if you like fast cars and motorcycles, it's an awesome place to camp. Everything ends in the afternoon, so it's quiet all night.

We are staying at laguna seca campground 13th, 14th, 15th. They have plenty of vacancies. Not sure which campgrounds after that.
Also as far as a cutoff from I-5 to the 101.It looks like Hwy 46 would be the better choice over Hwy 198. Your thoughts please.

Hwy 46 is a much better choice than Hwy 198.

I however prefer heading a bit further north on 5 then 152 west -156 west-101 south-156 west-1 south.

Moss Landing is a good place to go for the day and take the boat trip up Elkhorn Slough or rent kayaks. Phil's Seafood is a fun place for lunch. while in Monterey, we take our bikes, park in the public parking lot by the wharf and ride along the path through Cannery Row. You can also rent bikes. Enjoy your trip.
