The cheapest gas in I-5 is in Pilot at Lost Hills. And best coffee.. - Yosemite_Sam1Explorer

I'll never forget how devastated our kids were when we made the drive north and they learned that the "Carmel Valley" they had been seeing signs to for hours actually contained zero "caramel".

search California bus and motor home map for legal restrictions on length.
Thanks @time2roll!
Restrictions are for motorhomes over 40 feet between San Simeon and Carmel.
Am interested on this and your info benefited me too as I'm planning to take that route again from Monterey to SoCall this first week of June.
We took a ride in our car north from Morro Bay yesterday and were shocked to see RV's heading north of San Simeon on 1. Crazy!
I had my practice.. I've done scarier. It's 120 and Tioga at Yosemite. The unguarded double ravine at Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe.
And most dangerous, I think, no ravines but fully loaded double trailers logging trucks along 101 in Washington barreling downhill at 70mph and overtaking me with my RV, lol. - Don_and_EileenExplorer

Morrow Bay to Half Moon Bay is only 223 miles. Not sure why you'd be looking for diesel if you fill up first (unless I missed something, lol). BTW the Gas Buddy app is your friend for finding gas/diesel.

We’ve visited Hearst Castle a couple times in the past and had hoped to do another tour, but it hasn’t reopened. We’ve heard maybe July. - capacitorExplorerWhen you went above San Simeon, did you see the the elephant seals on the stretch of beach? They are quite a sight and probably the biggest "slugs" I have ever seen. If you have time, Hearst Castle has tours with an amazing history. Remember Patty Hearst kidnapped by the SLA in 1974? Her grandfather built the castle as well as the town of San Simeon with a pier to bring in all his statues and marble as the the nearest port was Avila Beach 25 miles south by road. If you do take 41 to 101, when you get close to Atascadero, honk and I'll wave. Drive safe.

When you leave Morro Bay, you have two choices to get to 101. Head east on hwy 41 from Morro Bay to 101 or drive north to just before Cambria and head east on hwy 46 to 101. 46 is much straighter than 41. 41 will take you to Atascadero whereas 46 will go to Paso Robles. From there take 101 to Spreckels ave which is just before Salinas and bypasses it to get to 68 and then to Monterey. DO NOT take hwy 1 north of Cambria to Monterey. It is very scenic but super winding and narrow. I see the last washout has been repaired until the next one this coming winter. The mountain caves in every year.
Thanks! I mentioned on another post that on a car ride yesterday we saw RV's heading north of San Simeon! It was tense enough in the car. We came in on 46 and thought about heading back out to 101 on 41, but given your description, we'll head back out on 46. - Don_and_EileenExplorer
