Monterey, CA & L.A. Area RV Parks

We are planning to visit Monterey, CA & L.A. area in September after Labour Day. We are looking for recommendations for RV Parks that don't charge an arm & a leg and not too far from the attractions. I don't care too much for amenities offered by fancy resorts. I just want a place to hook up my TT so that I get to enjoy my portable motel room after a whole day of sightseeing.

Most of the RV Parks at the coast I looked into are $80 a night and up. Some parks, about an hour away from the coast, are more reasonably priced @ $50ish.
I just wonder if it worth the drive.
  • What type of camper do you have? One of our favorite campgrounds is a small K.O.A.--Moss Landing, between Monterey and Santa Cruz, on the coast. Another is in Pismo Beach--Pismo Coast Village RV Park. Also, Flying Flags RV Resort-in Buelton--bit pricy but location makes it worth the $$'s--driving distance to Solvang(quaint Danish Village), Santa Barbara, etc. IF you come near L.A. use the I 210 FRWY best before noon. Frwy gridlock around L.A. is impossible. Lars
  • A number of nice county RV parks in Monterey...Laguna Seca is one..but no full hook ups...water and electric at some.
  • When we visit Monterey we stay at the fair ground RV Park. In the city, reasonably priced, not too fancy, just sites with hookups. Anaheim RV Park is a good base to explore Los Angeles and close to Disneyland.
  • Check Golden Shore RV Resort In Long Beach also.We stayed there and found it convenient to LA attractions.
  • If you want to be at the beach and just a place to stay while doing some sightseeing there is always Dockweiler State beach

Very close to LAX and can get a bit noisy but not really that bad and the views are great and it is freeway close.
  • Concur. We stayed at Dockweiler RV park in 2014 for a couple of nights. And we didn't even find the jets that noisy. Certainly didn't keep me up at night.

There is another LA campground up at Van Nuys, called Balboa RV Park. We stayed there for 4 nights. It's very tight, not a lot of room. So tight in fact, if you have a trailer, you drop the trailer at the office, and campground people use a fork lift with a ball on it, to put the trailer into it's proper site.

We liked Balboa because it was fairly central to Warner Bros Studio, Reagan Library in Simi Valley, and the Mulholland Drive, etc.

  • I would look at the L.A. suburbs. There are decent RV parks in Ventura and Valencia.

Pomona also has a very nice KOA, but the area isn't much of a destination.
  • Monterey area- check out Laguna Seca.

Just make sure you check the major event dates so you don't show up during a race weekend.

I camp in Can Am Circle every year.

10 miles to Cannery Row. It's just far enough from the ocean that most of the time, there is no fog, even when the beach is socked in.
