myrtle beach travel park

we live in south jersey heading to myrtle beach in april for my daughters wedding. this will be our first real long trip what is the easy and best route we will spend one or two nights before we get there . was looking at Carolina crossroads in n.c. we have a 5 yr old hope he wont need a lot of potty breaks
  • Carolina Crossroads is an excellent choice for a night or two, you will be about 4.5 hours from Myrtle Beach. Carolina Crossroads is super easy off I-95. Super clean pools, bath house, and a great value for the money.

We stay at Ocean Lakes when we travel to Myrtle Beach, but I have visited the Travel Park, it is nice, but they would not let me pick my site in advance so we opted for Ocean Lakes which does let you pick your site.
  • If you can make it a couple more hours, exit 90 has the Raleigh Oaks RV park. One of the best I-95 campgrounds I know of. Then you're about 3 hours from MB.

X2 on Ocean Lakes. Our favorite down there. But Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach are long. MBTP is more north and OL is waaaay south for Myrtle Beach.
  • We leave from SE PA and sometimes stay in Petersburg VA depending on what time of day we get on the road.
As far as directions into MBTP-
    95 S to exit 13 for 74 EAST
74 East to 410 south towards Chadbourn
410 to 701 south towards Loris
    701 to 9 east
    9 to 31 south
31 to Robert edge parkway east. This will drop you in front of Walmart Supercenter, make right, and MBTP is about 1 mile on left...

Once exiting 95 in Lumberton at exit 13, it is about 75 miles~1-1/2 hours to MBTP this way

Don't deprive him but limit his liquid intake and keep him occupied-books, puzzles, naps, toys-and that should keep stops to a minimum. We always stayed at Cherry Hill Park in College Park, MD, but that's probably too close for you.

We like to limit beverages to cold water and watered down iced tea during long car drives (and anywhere else we can;)); works through the system faster than sugary drinks but IMHO is better for the body overall. I get about 1.5 hours before pull over time on average w/ the kiddos and then if possible I let them run around/stretch their legs for 20-30 minutes and we are off again. For long trips (at least 4 hours or more)I set aside a full hour to eat and get out of the sitting position of car inertia as long as logistics don't get in the way.
  • My qualifications for my reply, Northern Delaware is my homeplace and I live in Myrtle Beach. I have driven back and forth many times.
My first recommendation is avoid I-95. For a more enjoyable passage take the morning Cape May-Lewes Ferry. Get to route 13 south, there are several ways, don't know when you are going, if summer it may be best to avoid the beach towns. First overnight at the southern tip of the Virginia Peninsula, several campgrounds in the area. Day two take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel south to Norfolk, which will be the only big city you pass thru on this route. Follow freeway thru city to Highway 17. This is the same rt 17 that passes thru Myrtle Beach, it is a nice easy mostly four lane road with bypasses around all the old bottleneck towns. There is no white knuckle driving like on I-95. Many places to overnight between here and MB.

You didn't ask about RV park recommendations in MB, but the crowd has been offering their favorites. The Grand Strand is a big place and traffic can get hectic in the summer so I would suggest staying in one of the parks closest to your daughters wedding. If you can word that in another query with the name or address of the wedding place I can assure you will get many suggestions. I may even let you in on the best kept secret in MB.
  • We've used both Ocean Lakes and Myrtle Beach Travel Park - like them both. Coming from NJ, I agree with DrivingMissDaisy; we've done that exact route and it is nice. I-95 around Baltimore & DC is horrendous and traffic will be heavy even well south of DC. If you take I-95 anyway, consider the Americamps RV Park around Ashland, VA. (formerly the Richmond North KOA) for an overnight stop. Easy access to and from I-95 and they have long, level pull-thrus.
