near Dead Horse Point?

Spending a 3-4 days here waiting for clear skies. Anyone in the area?

Would like to explore some of the 4wd trails, but not keen on going it alone.

Just parked yourself at the road to the trail you want to take and someone will be along shortly. :) 4-wheelers never mind if someone tags along. Have fun! It's a favorite place of ours.

Yes, x2 here -- we've hooked up with others just for the safely factor on some back-country roads. Most RV'ers and 4x4's will always enjoy the company, and the safety factor benefits anyone and everyone off-road.

It was a bit more than I was expecting, but I did make it across the full Gemini Bridges road. I'm amazed it's classified as an "EASY" trail, the first 7 miles to the bridges from 313 are easy, just a dirt road. The next few miles down into the canyon were steep and over bare rock, but nothing too bad. The last few miles, climbing out of the canyon up the side of a mountain on steep winding trail strewn with loose rocks, the "High Shelf Road" - that was a full pucker factor drive. Drove it all in 4-low and first gear.
Yeah, when I mountain bike the loop that ends up going down the shelf road, I often can ride faster than the vehicles. But it's mostly just rough and not too technical, hence the "easy" rating.
  • No storm here today, just some angry looking clouds.

  • I was over there yesterday. Stay on the sand. Already snow not too far to the west (Carbon County).
  • Keep a close eye on the weather as a storm is moving in shortly. Some of the trails get pretty slippery when wet and if you get the snow they are predicting, many will be impassable. Shafer Trail is already closed due to ice and snow on the trail, and that's a relatively easy route.

Assuming you're taking your Ram, you should avoid many of the tougher trails out there -- your truck just won't make it.
  • I sure hope you have clear skies on Sunday night -- meteor shower! We can't seem to find a place that won't be cloudy that night.

  • Nowhere near but AHHHHHH....one of our very favourite places.
