No Shaw Service in USA

New bird was launched 15 April. It's footprint does not cover the USA. I suspect Shaw won't be available in the southern USA much longer.

Monday, April 18th, 2013 at approximately, 12:35 pm MDT, Anik G1 was launched into orbit from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Our third satellite is now in orbit, 35,786 km above the equator and will be fully functional in late May.

Interersting. Previous post supposidly quotes a Shaw website but claims G1 was launched on 18 April. Quote in this post confirms separation 16 April which confirms my first post ... launch was 15 April.

Shaw doesn't know when it's on bird was launched??

Guess we'll wait and see, but telesat confirms the G1 foot print does not cover the USA. Someone must think they have enough customers down there to pay for space on multiple satellites. Guess we'll wait and see how long it takes to migrate to the new bird.

I think "the lady" was confused about Bell TV and Shaw Direct. Bell doesn't work in the USA anymore.

While Anik G1 does not cover southern USA, there is apparently no immediate plan to discontinue using the other birds that CAN be received in the USA. Remains to be see how the channels are split over the 3 Shaw satellites.

Anik F1R is suppose to be in operation until 2020 so they should have stations on it for a while (although it's worth mentionning that F1R was launched in 2005 to replace Anik F1 which was degrading faster that anticipated so it's possible that F1R won't reach it's anticipated 15 year lifespan either).

As far as the OPs complaint that he needed a 2nd account, that's pretty common. I believe if you read the fine print, they allow multiple connections on an account but they have to be at the same physical address. If you want to receive it in your home and in your RV, you need 2 accounts (it gets a bit greyer if you take the receiver from your house and move it temporarily to the RV and back to the house but even then, I suspect the fine print says that the services must be used at the account address).

have not spoken with Shaw for awhile. We have service to the house(since 1998) and we also have a receiver in the 5'er. The vin number of the 5'er is registered with Shaw as our cottage in Arizona. We only have ONE account. We do not put the acct. on suspension during the winter, since we use the satellite in Arizona.Have never had a problem with their service or customer service department.We view our billing online. Seems a bit of misinformation is going around. We have the 75cm dish in Arizona, but the TV in the 5'er is not HD. So we did not upgrade the LNB.

We have a new HD tv at home with HD receiver. We also did not upgrade the Lnb at home. Works great, and only use the free HD channels. The bill is already high enough just to watch tv. Dona

I don't know how they could possibly monitor how many receivers are at 1 location. i have 4 receivers. 2 at home 1 in Yuma and 1 my son has in his trailer. They even set me up with a second dish on their home away from home plan. It was a one time charge of $50.00 for the dish, and a monthly $5.00 multiple receiver charge. No mention of requiring 2 accounts or not being allowed to have more than one location. I even contact them when I get south to have my time zone changed for the 5 months away. Never any hassle or questions.

I must confess that I find the original poster's message somewhat confusing. There should be service in PEI with no problem. Did the original poster set up a new dish? or bring his receiver with him and hook up to an existing dish? or where is the original account dish location? or are there two different LNB's involved- ie older type dish and new dish? To me much more information is needed to accurately diagnose the problem.

I have had no problem moving locations and setting up the dish to receive a signal.

With regards to the US, Shaw has consistently acknowledged that the new satellite will not cover the US due to frequency restrictions but that they had no intention to stop using the existing satellites- unlike Bell who never did like us using the service in the US. Unless Shaw has changed their policy their should be coverage in the US in the future. My contact at Shaw said they are well aware of their RV clients, etc. who depend on Shaw for coverage in the South. Before I switched, I inquired as to any possible change in policy and was told there would be no change in coverage for existing programming. The G satellite would be used for new HD channels and they would not be available in the south.

I would like more details from the OP to figure what is happening.

As far as using in multiple locations and use in the US, as mentioned above, I think it's something they tolerate but it is against the service terms:

That said, I do agree that they are open to RV use and are fairly flexible when it comes to them.
