Since camping fees got so high last time we went that way, we stayed at Harris Beach SP and took day trips to northern CA to visit the Redwoods.
There are a variety of nice SP's along the coast depending on how far you want to travel each day. Or pick a spot and stay a few days, driving along the coast in one direction then the other to do your sightseeing.
Beachside SP is as the name implies, right on the beach. Nearby Tillicum Beach NFS CG only has a few sites with electric, but also has great beach access. We liked Sunset Bay SP near Coos Bay for the interesting setting.
For dining, don't miss The Waterfront Depot in Florence. Reservations a must in high season.
