California has really dropped the ball on it's camping facilities when it comes to keeping up with today's RV's. Rates for the sites, if you can get them, are often at least as much as private parks in the areas. About a week ago we drove Highway 1 (in our toad) from Long Beach - often referred to as Wrong Beach - essentially back down to the Silver Strand area south of Coronado. Our mid-sized 37' Class A gasser could be parked with water & power at a couple of different asphalt parking lots right on the beach. No sewer at the sites would necessitate unhooking & driving to the dump every couple of days. So, once again we find ourselves in a beautiful full hook-up private park, actually paying less than at the public facilities, but easily close enough to patronize the day use areas.
