Park in AL

Traveling from Gulf Shores AL to Cartersville GA (NW of Atlanta) and need to find a park along the way. We like lakes, falls, hiking, and forest type areas. We prefer state or Corps parks but can stay at a commercial park too. Any suggestions along the way would be appreciated. 38' motorhome with 4 slides.

Thanks....
  • We like R Shaefer Heard at West Point Lake in West Point GA. They have sites right on the lake. Sites 94 or 101 are nice.

  • U can get on hwy 59 go to interstate 65 to hwy43 north and go to Millers Ferry COE campground in Camden Al. Or u can follow 43 all the way to Demopolis Al. To (Foscue Park) COE park, When u leave either u can go to Selma Al. There is a COE Park just Outside of Montgomery Al. (Gunter Hill).

I am not that familiar with the other parks out of Mont. but there are others all the way up the interstate..

    Good luck, have fun

Tootsiepie - I would stir clear of the couple of RV Campgrounds near the I65 South BLVD and East BLVD around Montgomery AL . Those once very nice sections of town have now turned into a big CRIME ZONE especially South Blvd with all of the old famous hotels and night club spots all boarded up now.

We stayed at the camp ground just across the street from the I65 truck Stop one time and went looking for a good meal up on the South Blvd. The local police pulled us over and asked that we go back to our camp ground and not be on the streets there after 10PM. It was just too dangerous...

This was just two years ago...

When we travel we always pull up GOOGLE MAPS and when it loads up then type RV PARKs in the search window. Lots of RV parks some with reviews... Click on the RV PARK for more information... If I have some time on my hands we love CHEAHA State park off of I20 between Birmingham and Atlanta. A great mountain site RV Place...

  • Wherever the right campground will take me. The route allows me to travel north and then east thru central and eastern AL. Not western AL.
