Park near Salem, MA?

Need a recommendation for an RV resort near Salem. Just a safe place with not too much traffic that I can use as a base.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
  • Its a little west however we make Cambridge in 30 minutes. Neat clean super friendly rural safe. Boston Minuteman Campground in Littleton. You can be on 495 in minutes and can zip up to Salem.

    Happy Trails
  • Check out the cities campground, it's only a mile from town. They offer water electric, no dump station available though. We stayed there a couple of years ago. it was a very nice park. It was originally a coast station post, but was closed. The town took it over and made it a CG and marina. sites are limited so book early. Enjoy

    Here's a link, it's called winter island

Sometimes. Best case it's a 45 minute run. That's no traffic. No matter what you have to cross over to get to I95. Salisbury is closer by about 10-15 minutes (no traffic) but it's a more direct route.

At what rate of speed? Best case, no traffic, straight down Rt. 2 it's a 40 minute drive.

OP, I'd look into Winter Island. There may be another campground that will allow you to dump your tanks and some towns also allow it at their sewage treatment facilities. There's not really any such thing as "not too much traffic" in eastern MA.
  • We stayed at Winter Island in July, actually over the July 4th weekend. There were 2 areas for your RV one was in a parking lot down near the water and you can have a site on the water and the site we had was in a field. The sites were small but it was okay for the time we spent in the park and our neighbors were close but wonderful people. We caught the train in Salem and rode it to Boston for the day for $21 an adult roundtrip and the kids were $14 roundtrip. Winter Island had a lighthouse, public beach and an old fort. I was concerned about the bathhouse being shared with the beach people but never had to wait for a shower and they were always clean. We could have dumped at the sewage plant when we left but we wanted to be on the road earlier than the time it opened. If we have the opportunity to return we will not hesitate to stay there again. We paid $37 a night for our site and I think the sites on the water were a few dollars more.
  • Living in the town next to Salem, I have never been a fan of Winter Island but I know some are. It is next door to a power plant and the waste water plant where you can dump. I guess I have not taken to the train lately as I remember the family use to go in and out of Boston for $20. Boston Minuteman is nice with a train nearby to Boston. If in Salisbury, you can get a train in Newburyport that goes to Salem. One last choice, Gloucester has a campground as well, never been, as well as a train to Salem.
  • Thanks to all for your help. We "checked in"here at Winter Island a couple of hours ago. My Garmin gave me a rather torturous route through the neighborhoods but this place will serve my purpose for a couple of days.
Now just need to find a good Italian restaurant.
