Parking in New Orleans

We're working on some plans to go to NOLA later in the year and will stay at Ponchartrain Landing. We might want to stay later than the 7:45 last shuttle, so wondering what kind of parking is available for my crew cab, long bed, drw F350? Primarily thinking French Quarter. Multi level garages can be a bit tight. Thanks for your help!

  • I use to drive a F-350, SRW, 4 dr, 8 ft bed 4X4. We go to NOLA 2-3 times a year. We park in one of the lots along Peters next to the Westin Hotel. None of the lots along there allow DRW tho.
There is some metered street parking next to these lots on Front (or maybe it's Clay) and Conti. There aren't very many but sometimes you see some open ones.
It's going to be tough find a place to park a DRW in the FQ. You won't want to drive the narrow streets either as making turns can be pretty tight for a regular PU.
I think I'd take enblethen's suggestion and park at Algier's Point on the West Bank and take the ferry to the FQ. We have parked there a few times. It drops off at the end of Canal St so it's a short walk to the FQ. It use to be free for walk-ons but they now charge $2 a person or $1 for over 65. http://nolaferries.com/
Note the times so you don't miss your ferry back to Algiers. A cab ride is more than $2.
I have gotten lucky and found on street parking on Peters in the area of the French Market. Not something you want to count on tho. They're usually taken but you might get lucky. It's metered and you could get a DRW in there and feed the meter.
The FQ isn't dually friendly. Good luck.
  • We parked at the curb on the very west edge of the French Quarter during the day without problem. We also used the pay parking at Market Square. Don't try to drive through the French Quarter. Park on the perimeter and walk the Quarter. Its great.
  • We took the excursion and had no trouble driving but finding a parking spot on the st took a few minutes.
  • There's a Harrah's at the south end of the French Quarter. There should be plenty of parking for your truck. If not, then the Market Square north of the FQ has on street parking...best of luck driving that beast through the French Quarter...nighttime will be interesting.....Dennis
