Parks near Marietta GA

We have a small RV Section in Kennesaw, Ga. We are 1.5 miles from I-75 Exit 273. We cater to RV's working in the area or having business, family, etc. Nothing special: no bath house, pool. Thanks for all the great input. After reading the posts and thinking it over, I decided to go alone and stay in a hotel. We will be doing plenty of camping as a family this summer.

Another vote for McKinney COE. It's about 3-4 miles off I-75, maybe 20 miles north of Marietta. This is really a nice campground. No pool but there are two nice beaches. Many sites are on the water. This campground fills up fast in the summer and on holidays. There are usually NO walk-ups from mid-day Friday-Sunday spring, summer, and fall.

We have camped at Red Top Mountain SP and it's a really nice campground, too. The roads are twisty and some big rigs have a hard time navigating them. There are no RV sites on the water. There is a large swimming area within the park but no pool. They also have good ranger programs and bluegrass concerts on weekends during the summer. If you can be there during their Iron Pour weekends, your kids would love that.

There is one RV park within Marietta city limits, Atlanta Marietta campground. It's off the Hwy 120 loop in an area known for high crime. It's rather run down and has a LOT of permanent residents. I would not camp there with children, EVER.

If you are coming in from the east (Augusta) I would not use I-285, I take I-20 all the way into downtown and take I-75 north. It's 4 miles shorter to go all the way to I-75, and IMO the traffic on I-285 across the northeast part of the loop is the worst. From the west (Alabama) I-285 is the way to go.
At 2:00pm it won’t be real bad yet, but if you run late it just gets worse. Last time we went thru at 4:00pm, added about an hour to the trip. But it could have, has been lots worse later.

Edit: l001952119 sorry I just realized you aren’t the OP, coming from Texas to Cartersville look at taking US-411 from Gadsden AL over to Cartersville GA. This will keep you out of the Atlanta traffic mess altogether. It also saves about 40 miles

Atlanta reminds me of Houston and DC at rush hour. The world's largest parking lot.

Thanks for the information. I wasn't "thinking" on the I-40 issue. Hope I make it to the RV park. May leave earlier from my departure point to Georgia and try to beat traffic. Sounds like another Chicago traffic issue!
