Pisgah National Forest to Cincinnati.

We are at the end of a great trip down the Carolina coast to the Smoky mountains. Just met up with our son and his family. Looking for a couple of stops between Davidson River campgrounds in the Pisgah Ntl Forest and home in Cincinnati. Looking for something that would work for the 18 month and 4 year old granddaughters as well. Looking for a state park or national park feel with hiking, biking and electric hookups. Thanks for any suggestions!
  • Potential - In the direction you are heading --

Cherokee NC - Hiking, waterfalls, Indians history, entrance into the Smokey Mtns.

Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge - Smokey Mtns, lots of action -

As far as campgrounds with electric, lots of private ones in those areas.

    Have a great trip!

  • Norris Dam State Park TN?
You could make a side jaunt to Cumberland Gap going East, or Big South Fork going West a short side trip off your route. We stayed at Big South Fork, I think Blue Heron campground and really enjoyed it, hope to go back.
Cumberland Falls KY, but may be better for summer because of boating to falls.
Levi Jackson park in KY - haven't been there yet, but would like to go, it has a pool w/ water slide & pioneer village, may be better for summer.
    KY Horse Park Lexington?
  • Cumberland Gap NP? Some of their sites have power which should have some available during the week. You can take the cave tour if you are willing to hike up the 3/4 mile to the entrance.

Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY may also be of interest.

A bit out of the way, but for bike ride, check out the VA Creeper Trail out of Damascus, VA. This could easily be added in with a stop at Cumberland Gap NP. Pay the $18 for the shuttle to take you to the top and then have a 17 mile down hill bike ride. Getting a bit on the cool side for the young ones, but on a warm afternoon may be okay.
