Place to dry camp one night around Grayton Beach State Park

Our reservation doesn't start until Sunday, but we will be arriving Saturday, July 4th.

Is there someplace (Walmart or the like) where we could park the night until they will let us in on Sunday. I figure Sunday morning I can just go to the day area so the kids can use the beach. A good fireworks view would be a plus!

Just keep in mind that SUNDAYs is when folks start leaving the camp ground - some leave early some leave in the afternoon... Your reservation site might not be ready until the late afternoon. You might check with the campground and see if your site is available for Saturday as well. They might let you in on SAT if no one is there?

Most high-end camp grounds have a overflow area to accommodate early arrival campers...

Sunday is always a good day for us checking-in as most campgrounds are completely empty on Sundays...

  • The campground may have a site available for drive ups. Check with them first. Give tehm a call and see if they do that and ask for a recommended time to arrive to get one. There is a Walmart off Hwy 98 over in Santa Rosa Beach across from Topsail and The Donut Hole. I have seen a small RV in the parking lot before but not sure if they were shopping or sitting. Wouldn't hurt to check with them as well.
  • be sure and take the EASY hike to the falls while you are there. Really impressive for a state that is so flat. (FL folks don't get upset, I love real Florida and am from just as flat South GA.)
