Planing for summer 2015 Mount Hood

Need some help with campgrounds with full hookups in or around Mount Hood Oregon. We will be traveling the summer of 2015 with our disable grandson so we need campgrounds were we can make reservations in advance we don't like the first come first places. We like to have a secure spot and not wander around looking for ac place to camp so I would appreciate if you can come up with some locations that will take reservations. Thanks for the help
  • Oh wow,a new campground for the list and a new website too. Pretty good for one thread.
I don't have my map,but I think that there is a road that goes from Toll bridge and roughly follows the old oregon trail thru the woods. I guess it's a pretty good road now,but 10 years ago,it was still 4wd in most places. It starts up by the mountain off of 35 and it may be called the Barlow Pass road. There is a F.S. road that kind of parallels it all the way. There are a couple of spots where you can see the big gouges where they roped the wagons down the hill. That must have been a fun trip.
  • We stayed at Toll Bridge Park in Parkdale Oregon last year. The park is situated near the base of Mt. Hood and is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful parks in the country. Offers 85 campsites, 2 covered shelters, a day use area with a playground, on 100 acres and adjacent to the Hood River. 20 full hookup RV sites, 45 are partial hookup RV sites, and 20 are tent sites.

Toll Bridge Park is owned and operated by Hood River County and is located along the East Fork of Hood River. The campground is set at 1600' elevation in a mixed forest setting.

Highly recommend and they do take reservations up to one year in advance.

  • Leesann,I tried to follow up on my previous reply to the PM,but they stopped it.
According to the reviews, you're gonna be throwing the dice at Mt Hood village rv resort whether or not you're gonna get a good or a clean site.
Yes,Memaloose SP would be a decent alternative and there are a lot of things to do in the Hood River area. Need to get a res way in advance tho.
Columbia River RV park in Portland would add at least 30 minutes to your trip to the mtn,but would put you closer to things in the Portland area.
I haven't stayed there as we usually stay at the Jantzen Beach RV park when we're visiting as the G-GS lives in north Vancouver and my 91 y/o aunt lives just south of downtown Portland. I will stay at Pheasant Ridge in an emergency. No, it's really not a "10" resort as it's too tight,anti-dog,too many rules and you have to unhook your toad at the check-in place and walk back for it after you've parked.

Mt Hood Village as others have said. Very nice. Indoor pool, lots to do.

As was said before it is the closest and best for touring MT Hood. There are some beautiful F.S. cgs closer on the mountain, but no hook-ups and for smaller rigs. Anything on the Columbia river is gonna be HOTttt in the summer and most of the state parks are full way in advance.
It's fun going up to MT Hood in the summer and riding the upper chair to the top of the run and seeing the ski teams practising. You can either ride it down or walk and it really gives you something of the feeling of having climbed at least part of it and the view is awesome.

  • We very much enjoyed staying at Memaloose State Park which is near The Dalls, OR. We made an easy afternoon drive out toward Mt. Hood. You can make reservations through the state park system.

The closest full service RV paek is going to be Mt Hood RV Village at Welches. From there it is about 20 miles drive to Government Camp. Which is the village on the mountain. And another 5 or so miles up ro Timberline Lodge.

This is one of the only cg that has full hookups on Mt. Hood. Mt. Hood Village is also an encore park if you are thousand trails member you can get a discount. I stayed here about 1 week ago it is a nice park with lots of activities.
  • Camp Attitude is abput 150 miles drive from Mt Hood area. The closest full service RV paek is going to be Mt Hood RV Village at Welches. From there it is about 20 miles drive to Government Camp. Which is the village on the mountain. And another 5 or so miles up ro Timberline Lodge.
  • Hi,

You might also want to check out Camp Attitude. They would be accepting reservations in January for next summer's camps. They run 8 week long camps that are paid for by the buddy's. Basically teenagers pay $125 to attend the camps, and will take care of the kids who have special needs, while the parents get to camp for free! They have a small campground with room for about 15 RV's and some cabins. The campground does have hookups. It is in Sweet Home OR, about 1 hour south east of Salem OR.

Mt Hood the city can be pretty warm in the summer. You might want to look up Weather.com and check the monthly records for this month and last month of this year, figuring that next year will be about as warm.

Now Mt. Hood the mountain can be a little cooler, as it is higher elevations. I am not sure about the campgrounds on the mountain that have full hookups, I have not camped there, even though I live about 26 miles away! I know I should get out more often, but you know. .

    Good luck!

    Fred.
