Please, when traveling together

Please leave room between your vehicles when traveling together. On 2 lane highway such as 93 people have to take to much of a chance to pass all of you and if there is room between you they can pass one at a time if need be. I was on 93 between Wells, Nv and Twin Falls, Id yesterday and in order to pass the campers/motorhomes safely i was upwards of 90 to get by the group. This group was going 10 under the limit and i watched as a semi was trying to pass and get back in the lane between also.

  • I've seen this sort of thing, too.

In my own M.O. I observe the same rule as when driving up a mountain road. If 5 or more vehicles are following me, I find a pullout and let them all go by. Everybody is happier, even me.
  • In truth. It is not real smart to be that close to the vehicle infront of you. You will hit them in the rear before you can stop, IF they have to stop. It will be your fault. So IF you are smart enough to leave room between you, Others will have room to get in.
And in fact. Following too close is a moving violation.

So drive smart, and safe. Do not tailgate on the highway. It's not smart.
  • Leave space, then if traffic starts to back up as Brian48, says pull over onto shoulder and slow down when no traffic permits vehicles to pass.
  • Good in theory and I understand what you are saying. What can be done about the first car following the last slower vehicle that refuses to pass thereby backing up traffic? I don't know what the answer is, but if the bigger units can maintain closer to the posted speed maybe that would help. It doesn't seem to make any difference how fast you travel, someone somewhere is going to want to go faster. Brian
  • Sometimes I've seen gypsy caravans taking that route and they do tend to travel very closely and all stop at the same places. Lots of motorcycle caravans on that route, too, but they usually aren't traveling under the speed limit.
