Quartzsite Video

I travel on roads similar to those ... but not in the RV. We do volunteer work off some steep un-maintained ranch mountain roads in the remote outback part of a CA state park. We have special permits to drive in there where normally only backpackers and mountain bikers are allowed.

It's a lot of fun in 4X4 compound low with the pickup. A bonus is fishing in the remote lakes/pounds back in there for wild bass that rarely see a hook. They jump on the lures with sometimes multiple strikes per cast.

We all come from different stems. My bro John (that's his Ford F250 and pop-up camper in the pic above) and I come from a jeeping/off-roading/rock crawling past but are now old enough not to enjoy laying on the ground at night and enjoy traveling off-road in our truck campers. The difference is we use our old 'jeeping' technology with our 10K pound truck campers and have even coined a new off-roading style of TC-ing into the moniker; XTC. Extreme Truck Camper. The XTC community has developed a lot of techniques to keep your TC from pulling itself apart when you get the frame and axles all twisted up. Three-point. Four point, diamond shaped attachments. Loosen the rear tie-downs and let the back float, side to side above the bed.

Assuming you meant "thee" (instead of thiee), that's the pronunciation I learned, when followed by a word starting with a vowel. She said "Thuh largest" and "thee American" which sounds correct to my ears. "Thuh American" is clumsy, and an 'ethnic' pronunciation in this country.

As for my personal take, I don't like: "8 am on Saturday morning". Isn't "am" always in the morning?

Kudos for "EE vents" and not "Uh vents". I also was especially pleased at not hearing the constant use of long A's, as in "This remote desert town has uh (a) population of.. " Almost all newscasters seem to have picked up this "long A" habit, and he/she would have said "This remote desert town has AY population of.. " Drives me crazy.

As for Plomosa, I've always heard it as "Plomossa", not "Plomoza"

Pretty harsh words from someone who has trouble spelling.

Speaking of Quartzsite and steep roads, this is nothing compared to the road up to Guadalupe Peak overlooking Quartzsite to the east. That is a concrete road with groves raked in sideways, and it still takes a 4x4 in compound low to get up there. Its quite a bit steeper than this.

Just think about what was required to make this pour !

Don't kid yourself. Telephone Road is that steep. A lot of Mtn bikers shuttle it to the top to get a gravity assist ride down, back to Laws. Definite E Ticket ride on a mountain bike. Only time I've ever been back there was when I had my Toyota 4x4 Xtra Cab with a Snug Top shell, found the area on a De Lormes. Very rugged and remote, where he was. Bishop is the donut hole of weather, moisture and rain are kind of rare out there.

If it was, how did the person driving that TC keep the truck from gradually skidding forward out of control? In the past I've passed on grades that steep in my offroad 4X4 PU with no camper on it!

Geez br549redneck, I knew someone would someday would figure out I am nothing but a fraud.

I will admit, I have never made a video, like the OP. Now, I am an accomplished photographer. In the past I was a professional speaker, as well as an instructor in public speaking. Even a published author. Now I did attend Cinema Interruptus, for 17 consecutive years. But, you are right, I have never made a video, just like Leonard Maltin and Roger Ebert have never made a video either. But they have written a few opinions about videos. Well, Roger was an accomplished screenwriter, prior to his eventual occupation. So I am not sure how the premise of not making a video is a valid argument of not providing a critique.

It seems we are living in a world now, where everyone gets a medal, for participation and letter grades are no longer assigned so as not to hurt the esteem of a child. Yes, br549redneck, no one should ever provide constructive criticism, even when one requests feedback. I would encourage you to look at the OP’s previous post on this topic; Previous Quartzsite Video thread. As I stated, I feel that it is not beneficial to criticize without offering a reasonable solution.

The fact is, the OP requested a critique. To not offer a critique would be less than helpful when it is my belief that my suggestions would help the OP produce, an improved video. I would proffer you, to find one of my examples, or suggestions, to be without merit. What I read from your response is; “If you don’t have anything nice to say about something, don’t say anything.” Those that have grown familiar with my posts, would probably agree that I will speak up, often when others may not, offering only; “Back Slaps and High Fives!” :B

Oh yeah, I will crawl back under a rock now, as it is a great location to discover so many creatures of the desert, there.
