we tried it 4 times.everywhere there is too much noise in the camps.as they are all on busy main roads...in the camp people were forever getting there MHs polished for days on end. or leaving for work at 5am in a noisy diesel truck..and then there were the parks neighbours...barking dogs, 5 year olds on noisy motorbikes etc At Santee lakes we even had 'fishermen' playing the truck radio so loud it could be heard a mile away and of course military jets!We do not like the desert so where on the west coast can we find a few months of peace and quiet?!5 months stuck in a MH cos it is too noisy to sit out is no fun!we tried state parks and agree with the reviews that there is no limit on the rowdyness at them.any ideas anyone?thanks all

An Escapees RV Club membership is required, but the Park of the Sierras Co-Op park might have just what you're looking for.

I have found a few campgrounds that I have found quiet, probably too quiet for my taste as activities are limited. Vacaville, CA, Auburn, CA, around the Salton Sea and on the outskirts of Palm Springs and vicinity. That said, RV resorts are similar to condo or hotel living in that you have neighbors in close proximity. New RVs often have TVs and sound systems on the outside, encouraging relaxation under the sun and stars, this creates noise for those who do not enjoy the entertainment. Fishermen like early morning, and people who still work must leave for work in the vehicle they own, often the diesel that has the duel purpose of pulling their rig. Oh, those noisy military jets, I remember my many years in Tucson with the F-15s screaming overhead as they headed off for their tour of Viet Nam. THE SOUND OF FREEDOM can sure wake you up in the morning, and it might even interfere with your ability to hear the news on TV. But you are FREE to hear the new, free to live in your RV. Maybe my satire will seem like I am flaming you, but then again, if you don't like your neighbors you have wheels on your rig...move it. If you don't like the military jets...well heck, I won't even go their.Peace and Freedom and Happy Trails.

I would say forget about RVing and buy a condo on Coronado, except that you'll be listening to the Navy and Marines. It is hard to find a really quite place anywhere in Southern California and still be walking distance to civilization.Snowbirding doesn't have to mean living in a motorhome. Most snowbirds have warm country stick and brick homes, RVers are a snowbirding minority, and don't get the best locations, which are too valuable to rent out as large parking spaces.

Wow, a simple question of where to camp that is quiet and the response the poor person got from non-RV'ing snowbirds. Last time I looked at the url of this website it was "RV" not "warm.comfy.S&B" I don't blame anyone for wanting some peace and quiet in their retirement years. No one goes out of their way to live next to a gunnery because it represents freedom. They live there because they can not afford better. To the OP I can't help you on your search other then telling you most 55+ gated RV parks will have like minded snowbirds. That is where you're going wrong in your winter home selection. Once you start staying in parks that are less then 55 then the daily life noise will become an issue. Cheaper parks will be close to noisy things since no one will pay a premium to camp there. Like all things in life, the more you pay usually means the more you get in return.

We enjoy the Fountain of Youth Spa resort near Niland, CA. It is in the desert area of Salton sea however. It is quiet, no kids, (a very few grandkids visiting). Check it out.

There are plenty of parks where snowbirds stay the season. Those are the kinds of parks that would have quiet neighbors. They go to sleep at 9pm!

Stay away from parks with water activities (fishing, a site next to the pool, etc.). Stay away from parks that have kiddie playgrounds. We have seen tons of parks that are quiet. You're choosing the wrong ones for some reason. Sometimes you need to get off the main drag, too. Right next to a highway is going to be noisy.

Actually, it isn't a sewer works but an electric power plant. This plant has since been shut down and they are making it into an electricity generating plant using ocean wave technology or something on that order, the last I heard.

how cold does it get at night in december?

We haven't been there in December but the chamber of commerce website say the average daytime temp is around 70 and the average low is in the low 40's. We will be there this December.
