Redwood Rockefeller Loop Trail Camping

We will be driving from SF up the coast to Oregon. We need a place to camp overnight near Redwood Rockefeller Loop so we can do some short hikes in the forest. We like BLM/NP/NFS campgrounds. We like dry camping. We do not need a private campground with FHU.

We will be in a 35 foot 5th wheel.

Any suggestions??

  • Looks like you didn't like the answers here so you re-worded the question again. Sorry, same answer.
  • Do not take a big rig into Albee. The trees crowd the road -- way too narrow. My tiny 7 foot wide trailer barely fit.
  • Agreed that the redwoods across the creek are a real treasure. Albee Creek campground has only a couple of sites that would fit you and the access road is doable but a challenge on the sides. Ancient Redwoods would be a good bet. If it is only an over night stay, the parking area at the Founders Grove exit (Honey Dew, if memory serves) can fit the bill.
  • We just stayed at Ancient Redwoods in Redcrest. Well-designed park, well maintained, good location, great management. (We usually stay at Albee Creek but for health reasons needed full hookups this time.)

Bring leather gloves and extra plastic containers -- the berry bushes are just about ripe right now. Also, bike riding on Avenue of the Giants is a lot of fun. Start at the park headquarters and ride to Myers Flat and then head back downhill. (Very gentle hills.)

When you hike in Rockefeller Grove, be sure to cross the creek on the bridge and check out the other half of the grove.
  • I agree with korbe. Two nice RV parks in/near Redcrest.
  • Well, the good news is that the SP campgrounds within the park are all dry camping, but the bad news is that a 35' 5er may find it difficult to find a site long enough, or find the access roads suitable. Not familiar with any BLM/USFS campgrounds in the vicinity. Most of the SP campgrounds areperfect for tenters and small rigs. If it were me, I would find an RV park and be done with it.
