- Gonzo42ExplorerEl Capitan is only about 2-3 miles south of Refugio. Carpenteria should not be affected yet. They say they have 3 rings of containment around the spill.
Also there is now a federal investigation going. - The Santa Barbara County website has the most up-to-date info I could find at this time. It includes documents from the agencies leading the unified response effort. It also includes a very active county Twitter feed and some suggestions for alternate camping areas which still have spaces available.

- hobbssbExplorerThe local news said today that El Capitan is now closed in addition to Refugio. It seems unlikely that the oil would spread to Carp with all the containment that is going on today. One official called it a "medium" spill.
- Executive45Explorer IIIReports say Refugio was evacuated and is now closed...probably through the holiday weekend. Carpenteria, being on higher ground shouldn't be affected although the beach most likely will be closed. Cleanup is supposed to take about 3 days. Fortunately, it was a relatively small spill...21,000 gallons....Dennis
