RV garage homes in Bullhead City/Fort Mohave, AZ

If I were to buy a 2nd home here in the Hot Dry Southwest than it would either be Vegas or Lake Havasu, Bullhead is so boring expect for Laughlin across the river, Kingman is OK but slow as to life and such, I plan my trips out of this dust bowl just don't understand what people see here to retire, I want green in my retirement not wind, high heat and dust..

And just to let you know I have been here for over 20 years, I know this place very well.

Mike and Trish, really have to ask, why too close to the border?

Google the climate for Vegas. Looks too cold for me in the winter. Head a little farther south and temps rise considerably.

Wow, thanks for all the good responses -- lots of useful info there! I'll try to add a few comments/clarifications:
- Good tip about Kingman -- we've driven through and/or by there a few times, but haven't really checked it out. Will have to do that.
- We're not really interested in Yuma -- too far south and close to the border for us.
- We live in Delaware, and love it here, but our favorite places to travel are in the West. We'd like to be able to spend several months in the Southwest in the winter, as well as explore the Rockies, Pacific Northwest, etc. in the summers. Having made multiple trips west in the last few years, we're thinking in terms of establishing a "base of operations" from which we can explore, and where we can put our feet up between trips in the area. Some place like Salt Lake City would be more central, but too cold in the winter, so we've looked at places like St. George, Las Vegas, etc. We've found homes with RV garages in various places, but none that we like (or can afford) as well as the BHC area. The one development we actually have our eye on is Valley View at Sunrise Hills, in Fort Mohave. Each home there has an RV garage plus an RV pad alongside, so friends can join you.
- Interesting point about doctors. We try to keep our routine appointments at home in Delaware, but need to consider unplanned medical needs as well. I did see a newish hospital, Valley View Medical Center, in Fort Mohave.
- We stayed at Vista del Sol the first week of March. Know what you mean about the wind up on that bluff! Saw their "houses" too ... double-wides rolled into place and plastered over with stucco. Not for us.

Foothills area in Yuma has hundreds for sale of all different varieties or just buy an RV lot and do what you desire.

Whe went last summer to see at its hottest. It is HOT and windy. It was like a dust bowl each afternoon. I like the heat, as long as a pool is nearby. So I was OK. RV air con could not seem to keep up. Coldest it could get was 86. 2 units running full time. 115 outside. Not for us.

We spent Jan & most of Feb 2016 in BHC at Vista Del Sol just off the Parkway. They have homes for sale, as well as RV spaces, but not the kind you asked about. What I want to mention is it was so windy there we (and others) left early...without refunds just to get away from the wind. I suggest renting for a year before investing! We will never go back!

If you're planning on traveling to all the other places you mentioned, why buy in Bullhead City? Just move your RV to those other beautiful places. It's a lot cheaper. You only spent one week there. I'd suggest spending months there to see how it feels for you. Do you know how hot it gets there? Wow!

Housing prices in the Bullhead area hit a big low about 3 years ago. They are starting to climb back up. We bought a place to time-share out, it was purchased by the original owner for just under $375K 4 years prior. We bought it for less than half that, and though prices are climbing, I don't see it going back to $375K for another 2-6 years. Depends on who the next Pres is. Nice 2000 SF houses can easily be had for $150-175K. Get a decent realtor and have him start sending you emails on available houses.

My wife and I lived in BHC for 8 years in Sunridge Estates. We had a RV and we loved it there...me more than my wife. Unfortunately, BHC suffers from a lack of quality medical care. If you are in good health, then BHC/Laughlin is fine. However, we had to move to Las Vegas because I had kidney disease and bladder cancer and could not find a skilled urologist in the BHC area to treat me. BHC has good dentists and PCPs but lacks medical specialists. In fact, my PCP in BHC kept referring me to specialists in Las Vegas so we finally moved there last year. My suggestion is to check the area for any medical specialists you require because you'll get awfully tired driving to Las Vegas. Also, if you are a vet, the VA hospital in Las Vegas seems to be highly rated. I personally use Medicare but at least the VA is there for backup.
