RV Parking at Niagara Falls

e will be in Niagara Falls for essentially an overnight. We'd like to tour a bit at Niagara Falls, but I'm not sure it's worth pulling into a campground, as we'll only be there around 24 hours. I will get a site though if I can't find somewhere to leave the camper if we need to drive around, or if there isn't RV parking at the Niagara Falls State Park and Visitor's Center. I just fear if I have to get a site, I would have to get it two nights, so that we could park there around 4pm, and leave at 4pm the next day.

Does anyone know whether we can park (and leave the camper if we need to...will we?) at the Visitor's Center? Would we be allowed to park there overnight? If not, how is Four Mile Creek State Park?

TIA

Are you sure about no restrictions? The reason I ask is while at 9'-6" clearance, I have no problems with the bridges, when I asked at the bridge toll taker (maybe the wrong person to ask), I was told no trailers or RVs on the Moses Parkway. When I called out local state police, I was told no trailers on ANY NY parkway. Love to know since I usually drive in to Niagara Falls on NY 104, and hopping on the Moses would be easier than driving through the city.
Well, it was bugging me, so after a bunch of phone calls I finally reached the right organization (The NY Park Police) and as long as your vehicle is not commercial, you can tow on the Moses Parkway. There are a few low bridges on parts of it, so it is still worth checking, but it is legal.
  • I lived in NY for a number of years, and most of their parkways are not RV friendly and are marked as such. It might be that heading into the campground/state park you're good. I'm 13'2" with the 5th wheel, so I won't chance it...until after I drive with and confirm lol.

Great advice on the campgrounds - I'll check out both the KOA and the State Parks. I've really been wanting to try a state park - we have the generator, and so even if we had minimal hookups, we'd be fine (though I've never dry camped and I'm scared to death of it lol).

    Thanks for the inputs!

DO NOT USE the Robert Moses Parkway!! ALL parkways in NY were built for the sole use of auto, and will have low (10' and some less) clearances on overpasses. If going up to NF or Four Mile Creek just take I-190 north to the correct exit.

The correct exit off I-190 for Four Mile Creek State Park is #25A to Military Rd to 104 to... wait for it... Robert Moses Parkway!!! There are no low overpasses before reaching the park. We've even come in along the lake with our Class A using the Lake Ontario Parkway with no issues other than using the left lane for a couple of the lower arched overpasses just to make sure we cleared ok. There are no RV restrictions posted for either parkway.

As far as I know, overnighting in the falls parking lots is not allowed. Four Mile Creek is a really nice state park, especially if you get one of the sites with a good view of Lake Ontario. It's about a 20 minute drive to Niagara Falls State Park from there, and your Four Mile Creek receipt gets you into the falls parking for free. If you have the time to spare, I'd suggest at least a two night stay at Four Mile Creek so you can relax a bit after a day at the falls. We found spending one day on the US side and one day on the Canadian side really gave us the best of both "worlds". The evening light show is also fun to see.

ANY New York State Park receipt (for the same day) gets you free parking for the day at Niagara Falls State Park. We've camped at Golden Hill SP (a bit farther east from Four Mile Creek and a lovely spot overlooking Lake Ontario - you can see Toronto's CN Tower on a clear day) and then spent the rest of the day at Niagara Falls SP before crossing the border to go home.

Do either of you have any experience with routes in and out? Seems the state parkway that the Good Sam route planner puts me on is not RV friendly. I changed it to run 62 in and out?

The Robert Moses Parkway is fine for RV's and in pretty good condition. It also makes getting back and forth to the falls very easy.

  • As an alternative there is a Wal-Mart on Military Road (Rt 265) about 15 minutes from downtown.
