SC/GA Coast at the end of August?

Having lived along the Gulf coast most of my life I am accustomed to the threat of hurricanes and the hot humid weather of August.

How many of you would gamble and book stays at Charleston and Jekyll Island towards the end of August given the chance for tropical development?
  • Tornados give little or not warnings, but with a hurricane you are likely to have a week or at least a few days warning. Within a week you can be many miles from the coast into the mountains are further west. Go and have a good time.
  • One note on cancelling, if you wait until there is an evacuation order you may not have to pay the cancellation fee. Now I am not sure, I would want to evacuate during an order as traffic can back up in a hurry at that time. I would probably not worry about the small amount that you would lose by leaving early (or cancelling early).

BTW, there are not usually a great many hurricanes that hit the east coast. The Gulf usually has many more that make landfall or cause evacuations.
