If anyone plans to be driving south through North Carolina, if you can, wait until you cross into South Carolina to fill up with gas. It is about 30¢ cheaper there. I guess if you are driving north, reverse this procedure! I didn't really pay attention to diesel - I was in the toad.Gas near the NC coast is around $3.30, around $3.00 in SC.And yes, I tanked up my toad in NC and drove 6 miles into SC and was NOT happy!

We locals always wait to cross the border for fill ups en route to FL. And we catch the SC prices before entering GA, too.

Yep it has been that way for a few years now. NC raised their gas taxes and priced themselves out of the market for travelers. When heading to Myrtle Beach or Florida from Maryland, I fill up at the last exit in VA and then again in SC skipping over NC. Last year when we went to FL, I don't recall South GA fuel prices being all that bad.

Right now gas prices in Myrtle Beach area are mostly UNDER $3.00 a gallon. Some as low as $2.93! Right along the Grand Strand, prices may be over the $3.oo a gallon mark, but go 2 miles inland and they're lower.

Regular travelers in most regions know where taxes are higher or lower.

I've always tried to get from Missouri to Indiana without having to buy gas in Illinois.

In the 1960's, NC was the place to buy cigarettes, they were cheaper at border stores than in the BX.

Just filled up at $3.85 in California. I'd take either one of those prices. At $3.00 gallon I'd be driving our V10 everywhere.

Yep. NC has some of the highest gas taxes in the country, Always fill up in SC on the way home.

Yep here in Upstate SC gas is in the 2.94-2.99 range and diesel 3.49-3.59

North Carolina has some of the highest gas taxes in the country, but have some decent roads to show for it. South Carolina probably has the least expensive gas in the country right now but a lot of their roads show it.

VA changed its formula for funding roads by actually reducing the gas tax but increasing the overall sales tax. Funny thing was gas prices didn't drop any but everything else went up. Wonder why THAT doesn't surprise me! Still, we are not too far from what most stations charge in South Carolina.
