Seasonal camping in the Northern states

Minn cold,real cold I,d think your not going to find a campground open, everything would be froze ,even the poo pipes. find another mobil park thats nice , and a TT was not made for long term use in very cold temps , it would cost a small fortune to heat.

Most all campgrounds north of Northern Kentucky close for the winter as number of campsites rented would not justify being open from a business standpoint. Water systems of most must be drained for the winter to prevent freezing and bursting and $$$ of repairs later. There are some place that allow camping but have electric only with no water or sewer. Just remember lots of precautions would need to be take to avoid freezing but that is another discussion

I am in Ontario Canada, but here the last weekend is our Thanksgiving and open again May 21st, our long weekend, Victoria Day. You may find a few that open earlier and stay open a bit later, but not many. Depending on the campground, if they have permanent trailers, you winterize and come back in the spring.

I just searched Kentucky and there are 26 campgounds within 50 miles of Lousiville that are open all year. Including the KOA is Lousiville


Fact is people just do not know because they do not even think of camping in the north in the winter

I own a campground in northern New England. We are closed for the winter months but we allow our seasonal campers to leave their campers (winterized) on site until the spring at no additional charge. There are campgrounds around us that are open for the winter but most chose to close. Every campground is different so you need to check with them before you sign a seasonal contract. Make sure you ask all of your questions up front so that there are no surprises. When we talk to new seasonals, we try to make sure they know everything about our park but as hard as we try, there are sometimes things that we just don't think to mention. Don't be afraid to ask. I did a search on Good Sam's site and only 2 came up that are open all year in MN and they're both hours away from where I live now so that's not do-able. I guess i'll have to come up with a plan B, and either find somewhere else to live in the winter months or risk it in that crappy mobile home park. They have high lot rent though which is another reason i'm trying to avoid that place. And as long as I keep my current job, I won't even be there more than a week every other month.

While our camp ground on the St. Lawrence river in New York officially closes Oct 15 we are free to come all winter. There is no water but the electricity is individually metered so it is available all year.

I don't understand why you can't live in a TT in the winter in a campground but you can in a mobile home, they are pretty much the same thing, it's just a really long trailer. They both have plumbing above ground, i don't see how those are ok but Rv/TT's aren't.

I am going to just look into living in a trailer park now, in a regular mobile home. If I can't live in an RV full time up here then what's the point.

Living in MN, you should have an understanding of a few things.
1. It snows. Lots of snow. Most campgrounds aren't going to be spending money to plow roads to campsites in the campground, when only one person or a few are there.
2. It gets cold. Very cold. Travel trailers and 5ers are NOT like trailer houses and trailer courts. Trailer houses and trailer courts in MN have insulated skirting. They also have insulated waterlines that come up from the ground under the house trailer. A lot of them also have electric pipe wrap.
3. House trailers are made to be lived in permanently and year round. They are made to be hauled once or twice and put in place. They are far more substantial than an RV which is made to be lightweight and pulled by a personal tow vehicle, not a Semi truck.
4. Condensation during very cold weather may be a very serious problem in your TT/RV. Most TT/RVs are simply not built for use during below zero temperatures that MN experiences for several months during the winter.
