Southern Oregon rest areas

Has anyone stayed at Oregon Rest Areas overnight on Hwy. 97 south of Bend? Will be leaving Bend around 1:00 pm tomorrow.

Need to be as close to CA border as possible.

Thank you for all the help.

  • There is a OR State rest spot past Klamath Falls on Hwy 97 in Midland,OR on the left.
    You can stay there.
The privately owned RV spot in Dorris, CA is pretty old and junky.
  • If you leave at 1pm....4-5 hours you would almost be in California. If not....there is one rv campground right before you get into Klamath Falls and a KOA right in town. Also...an rv park in Dorris right across the border.
  • Find a casino... they let you park overnight free if you just go inside and register. (That's free). The food is usually good. The security is 24/7.

The last time we stayed in a rest area there was gun shots at 11pm. This was in the northern CA area. Everyone stayed put. No one moved. We were all afraid to ... afraid that if we moved we'd be the one singled out for target practice. We moved when the first truck moved but that was several hours later. NEVER AGAIN.
  • As far as we know, you can "rest" at any rest area in Oregon....as long as you don't "live" there. By living, we mean, no slides out, etc. But we see people sleeping all the time at them....we've done it in other states, not Oregon. Just be VERY careful.....don't get out and go to the restroom at 2:00 AM......it could be your life in danger.

You can't get to the Klamath River rest stop from 97 without coming over to I 5. I would go to Collier rest area just north of Klamath Falls or go to Weed Ca. than back north on 5 to the Weed rest area (15 min)and then go to the next ext. and come back south. I have made at least 10 trips from So. Oregon to Redding in the last 6 months and see a lot of RV and truck in the rest areas.

Don't know if you can stay overnight.
