In that area are some cool state parks. Johnson's Shut Ins, Elephant Rocks, and nearby is the Ozark Scenic Riverways. Canoeing, hiking, sightseeing are plenty down there.
Arkansas has some great parks. You mentioned Eureka Springs, a cool somewhat crowded place. There's a few nice COE CGs near there by the reservoir (Dam Site CG). and some nice private CGs. We stayed at Wanderlust CG last fall, very clean place, and they offer shuttle service into town.
if you don't mind an hours drive and want to camp a part of the time Cuvier river state campground is just north of St Louis and an excellent State campground. I second the Arcadia valley if you want real local talent and back to true roots of America. Try Johnston shut it is not far from the valley and there is some excellent antique malls in the area. just make reservations at both early they fill up fast. Eureka Springs is also is also very nice, we have stayed at both Kettle and wanderlust campgrounds.
