St Charles is a nice place to visit. We stayed St Francois State Park which is very nice. It's maybe 40 miles south of St Louis. Has electric hookups,nice bath houses, nice separation between sites and there's a place on the river in the day use area that has a beach and area where the kids and dogs can wade.There are a few other state parks in the area to visit like Mastadon and Missouri Mines. Another state park which is closer to St Louis than St Francois is Dr Edmond Babler. We have never stayed there but have heard good things about it.
