I'll bite. Why are they insistent on hookups?
You could share your gen power with them and they'd be just fine.
That's why we use only quiet generators ... that we so far have found to be far more reliable than the sun. ;) - TxGearheadExplorer III'm thinking the entire length of the Texas coast will be one great big spring break party, as usual.

thanks for the info. I’d forgotten about Spring Break. Ugh! We are now looking at Mustang Island.
Padre Island does require a park fee that can be picked up at almost any gas station or store in the Corpus Christi area. Since Harvey, access to the beach areas is limited. Since the sand dunes are so close to the shore line and you cannot drive on the sand dunes you have to watch the high tides. The water will come up to the dune line. There are a few cut outs where you can pull into during high tide, but the Rangers don't recommend it. By the way March is spring break time in Corpus area and it gets crowded. - GaryS1953Explorer

thanks for the info, very helpful.
We toured pretty much the whole length of Padre Island last winter. There are miles of beach open for boondocking if you are so inclined. Most places require a "parking fee", but they are minimal - usually like $12/year. There are also RV Parks scattered up and down the coast - obviously in the more developed areas. The closest to Corpus is Port Aransas on Mustang Island, and there are several RV Parks there as well as beach access. Most of the RV's we saw on the beach were truck campers on 4WD trucks, or 4WD trucks with smaller, lighter trailers. - GaryS1953Explorer
