The 300 foot rule -- do they mean what they say?

Gordon, out West we really can spot sites on Google Earth -- I do it all the time. That is what has me worried -- in this area that I am considering, there are very few that I can see, even though the roads are technically dispersed-friendly.

I am leaning against breaking new ground. It just rubs me the wrong way, somehow. I guess, really, that I am worried that if everyone did this, the forests would soon be closed to boondocking.
