- BusdriverExplorer IIThanks for all the help !
- dieharderExplorerIf you have Passport America, it's really hard to argue against Jolly Roger!
- NanciLExplorer IIThe four state parks are basic and the best, but don't expect to get into them in the winter.
For private ones, I like Key Largo Kampground in the upper Keys and Jolly roger in the middle Keys.
We like Key Largo, since it gives us the option for the Everglades National Park which is only an hour away
Jack L - Parrothead_MikeExplorerA couple of years ago we stayed in Marathon at Knight's Key RV Resort. Basic campground with a nice tiki bar to watch sunsets. It's at Mile Marker 47. Reasonably priced. No sewer, but they will pump you out at your site. We like to walk in the mornings and you're right at the 7 Mile Bridge with the old bridge to walk/bike on for several miles. There are others in this area. Jolly Roger appears to be favored by many.
Here's a RV Park Reviews.com for Marathon campgrounds to check out.

Marathon is a good area to camp. Around 52 miles to key west and around 50 miles to key largo. Jolly Roger is a good cg. There are around 6 or so cgs around marathon.

Jolly Roger worked out well for us a couple of years ago - also got the P.A. rate which was a bonus. The pool is great and the waterfront area is very nice. We hope to go back again.
But you can't get waterfront sites with the PA...
State parks will run you about $38/night for water and electric. If you go somewhere like Jolly Roger and use PA, you might pay around $40-50 (depenfding on how many people you have). Go to somewhere like BlueKey and you will pay $100 or more per night. Although they are real nice sites. But more than basic. - TripalotExplorer

Don - fla-gypsyExplorerThe 4 state parks offer basic camping at the best rates in the keys.
- Jim_ShoeExplorerAnd most of the islands are only wide enough to support the road and Henry Flagler's railroad tracks. The keys are a string of coral atolls 100 miles long from Key Largo to Key West. That means 100 miles south and 100 miles north on the other side of the road. Some of the larger islands have CGs and some have imported sand to build a beach. Otherwise, bring shoes or you'll cut your bare feet to ribbons on the coral.
As you can tell, I considered the drive several hours of my life that I'll never get back.
