- NorskemanExplorerHigley Flow state park.
About 60 miles to Saranac Lake. About 40 miles to Ogdensburg.
It is just outside Adirondack SP. Electric in A,B and C loops. I can give you recommendations - we go there twice a year with the grandchildren. Great place for kayaking.
We also stay at Wellesley Island SP. Enjoy the Kayaking there too.
Stayed at Coles Creek SP in June - Kayaked on Coles Creek. The weekends are usually booked 9 months in advance
We have a 35 foot fifth wheel so we are limited more to some of the parks along the St Lawrence.
We always try to go during the week - less campers. - JoeHExplorer IIILook at Association Island-- get a waterfront site for convenience in launching the kayak. Another option is Merry Knoll CG in Clayton . Check out the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton-- big show Aug 1-10
- kodiakcanuckExplorerJust came back from Lake George, beautiful spot and lots to do with the kids, but if you are looking for a quiet lake for kayaking, Lake George aint it, and neither is the Thousand Islands. Both are very busy with big boat traffic.
I would suggest Tupper Lake, Fulton chain lakes, Long Lake, or Old Forge. All would be much quieter. Also Lake Placid is nice and beautiful area...
Good luck. - Poppy___NanaExplorer

Cedar Point is our favorite spot in the Thousand Islands, but tough to get a site this time of year w/o reservations. Have heard good things about Higley Flow SP as well.
Otherwise, I would skip Lake George and go to the central ADK's. Old Forge Camping Resort is good if you want hookups. Lots of kayaking on the Moose River, Fulton Chain, and many small lakes like Nick's Lake. Or for SP's, Lewey Lake is great, and Rollins Pond/Fish Creek is a big kayaking spot.
X2 = Old Forge area - Moose River is great kayaking! - KMP44ExplorerCedar Point is our favorite spot in the Thousand Islands, but tough to get a site this time of year w/o reservations. Have heard good things about Higley Flow SP as well.

The Thousand Islands did not offer me anything other than the siteseeing boat ride and fishing. For canoe/kayaking I would go for Lake George or Fulton Chain of Lakes.
- darsbenExplorer IIGrass Point is very nice, The Gals mini mart is right outside park with great ice cream, Also Wellseley Island state park is excellent. Nice beach, quiet coves,,
- mboppExplorerUnless you like open water I'd look into the Raquette Lake / Fulton chain area, or the Tupper Lake area.
State / DEC campground, or private w/ full-hookups? - K_CharlesExplorerThousand Islands.

Grass point State park near Alexandria Bay is a small, clean park that is nice for what you do. The river moves swiftly , of course, but there is some nice still water around it for kayaking, tiny beach area and sweet boat launch. Also consider Krieg point, as it's on goose bay in the 1000 islands.
Beautiful. If you have a chance, go to Boldt castle , on Uncle Sams tour boat.
