Moab high for today in the upper 80s. Rest of the week highs in the mid 90s. So if you boondock with no generators it will be very hot in the RV. If you stay in campgrounds/RV parks with electric you'll be a lot more comfortable. Your call, but I'd suggest getting a set of Honda 2000s with a parallel kit.

Far to complicated to boondock, and expensive when you have to buy all that extra equipment, I think everyone (else) should stay in regular campgrounds. :BThat would leave more room in the boonies for me!

Are you thinking of setting up to boondock for one trip or continue doing it after? Even a pair of Champion 2000 invereter generators will run you a grand, the Hondas that do the same job will run two grand. For one trip you would be better off renting them.We boondock to avoid the noisy and crowded campgrounds, not to save on the fees. It has taken time effort and money to make our rig so that we can do this comfortable. Even now that it is set up, it would take four days in the state park a few minutes from us to cover the gas needed to get to and from the area we boondock in. Check out the Boondocking section of the forum and you will see stickies at the top with lots of good info to help you out. List of what you need as well as sites that will help you find spots are all there.

Renting is not an option but we could probably sell them almost at US buy price coming back into Canada. Call it a very cheap rental. I have to agree. But there again if you buy an RV of any kind it's not "Cheap", as stated above I really prefer "Boondocking"

Just another perspective. If I was still in my early 50's I would still be back packing because I like the solitude of the mtns, looking at the valleys below, clear mtn streams, and the wild animals that I see when back packing. Now that I am closer to 70 and have arthritis in my knees, two repair rotator cuffs etc. Boondocking still affords me a way of getting into some remote areas and with some day hikes still enjoy camping.

It can be, all depends on how you do it. A tent is cheap. There are pop up campers that don't need a battery for the water pump or refrigerator and thus charging a battery is a non-issue.

However, if you want all the comforts of home while boondocking, then you are right, it isn't cheap or easy.

Also requires a lot of fine detail map reading and driving a lot of remote rough roads. You may spend the night in a few so-so spots, just a flat area along a remote dirt road, until you find the 'gem' -- the kind of spot you save as a GPS waypoint to return time and time again. Among your Gem list will be a couple of top spots you do not ever mention to anyone else and keep it a top secret.

Boondocking is not cheap and involves a heck of a lot of effort. If you like silence and privacy, it is worthwhile. If you want convenience, stay at a campground or an RV park. I do both, depending on the circumstances. I prefer boondocking. But there are times when it is just not practical.
