Very New to Snowbirding Florida Question Please

We are trying to go south for our first winter. I have spent many hours on the internet researching out rv resorts for Florida. Today I received a call from a rv resort around Navarre, Florida in the panhandle area. I was surprised that the average temps are around the mid 50's for Dec, Feb and March. Is this what I can expect for the whole state? I sure thought that it was much warmer down there. How far south in Florida must you go for 60' to 70's?

Any suggestions for a good place to go with a 40' 5th wheel trailer that is worth the price as far as amenities and weather.

If I can't get this put together soon, I may be using the snow shovel again this year! :-)

  • We went through the same thing that you are now. This winter will be our first being Snowbirds. Actually we will be part timer's but the camper will stay on site all winter. The farther south you go the warmer it gets AND the more expensive it gets. We found what looks to be a wonderful park in Silver Springs Fl about an hour north of Orlando and just east of Ocala. Temps should be in the low 60's for the most part which is not as warm as I would like but it is affordable and there are many fishing, biking and hiking opportunities around. It's a tradeoff I guess. We will try it this winter and if the temps are not warm enough for us then we will look farther south next year. Below is a link to the park that we chose...

    Wilderness RV Park
  • I stay just south of Frostproof in the Sebring/Avon Park area. Usually, we're in the 70's during the day, this year being the exception. Although, I only had to cover my tomatoes, once this year. If you don't need close beach access, you may want to check-out that area. Our over 55 park (Lake Letta RV Park) doesn't have a lot of "amenities" but it's reasonably priced. There are a lot of parks in the area, not all of them are on RVParkreviews.com.

A lot of the parks fill-up during the season, (ours did this year) so it would be good to make some reservations.
  • and it wouldn't hurt to get your reservation in shortly for the snowbird season in Florida.
  • Stayed in Navarre and its a great place but not in Dec, Jan or first part of Feb....tooo cold. As previously referenced, you want to be south of Orlando in the winter. (or Texas south of Corpus, AZ or south CA)
  • Anything South of I-4 seems to be a good bet for upper 60's and 70's. The panhandle is going to be too cold for shorts and sandals! We stay just south of I-4 in central Florida and the weather was delightful. A few days in the 50's in December, but it was still a nice warm stay!!
  • There is a town in Florida by the name of Frostproof and anywhere south of there is warm. We have stayed in Bowling Green for 6 years now and have only had a few days where the low was close to 32 and it only lasts for a couple days. The high temps are in upper 60s and 70s.
  • We stay in Fort Myers Beach. The weather is decent all winter expect a couple of weeks around Christmas when it is cool.

Our base is Indian Creek RV Resort on San Carlos Blvd.
  • Generally, you would want to be south of Orlando. Then the farther south, the warmer.
  • I can't recommend a park, but for weather, check out Weather Underground. Enter a city in Florida and then click on View Calendar Forecast under the 10 Day forecast. It will show you the Average temp for any given day and if it has it, the actual temp. For some reason Navarre doesn't have any historical data, but here's an example of Naples, FL.

Find the temps you like and then make a reservation.
