Waffle Farms Campground--MI

Has anyone camped at Waffle Farm Camprgound in Coldwater, MI? We usually camp in IN, but are looking for something within an hr.or 2 from our house (NW IN). Especially interested in a place to fish, relax, hike... We also saw a couple of campgrounds listed in Angola, IN. that look promising. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
  • I'm kind of torn on waffle farm, they only rent the lake front sites for a week at a time so if you are staying less than that you will not be able to be on the lake , some of the sites are ridiculously tight, they are long but very narrow we had some people set up a tent on the next site over right outside the door to our camper inches from the awning, on the other side we had loud partying group of recently graduated hs kids in tents right next to us making for a very unpleasant stay, also there are no fire pits, you just make your fire on the ground somewhere, the park is mostly seasonal campers. On the plus side the chain of lakes is very nice and the fishing is excellent , caught largemouth bass all day long, Im tempted to return because of the great fishing and hope for a better expirence. Pokagon in Angola is one of our favorites, nice lake and beaches but they are a little ways from the campsites, an easy bike ride though. They have great paved trails , hosreback riding and nice lodge, you can see pics of the sites on the Reservation page of the IN state parks, choose carefully because some sites are better than others, the sites are electric only.

Pokagon is a fun place (it's HUGE) you will want to bring your bikes. It's a state park, so no full hookup sites. Lots of trails including horse trails. If you like hiking, you will love this place. Outlet malls are just down the road, and Angola offers the main stores you might need during a stay.
  • I'm just down the road from there, my in-laws lease property there, so I'm through there quite a bit. They have a limited number of full hookup sites available to weekenders, but those sites are pretty good. Sites are close, but most KOA's are closer together. I see lots of kids biking and adults visiting on there golf carts. The beach has real sand, and they have fun paddle boats and other such things to rent. The lake is a chain of lakes with lots of good fishing. Wifi is available in most locations, and the little store is well stocked. A few miles into town is Haylets RV, which is pretty big, and they have a large RV store. Meijers, Walmart, Gander Mountain are all in the same area of town. Surprisingly it's just a little town (Coldwater) to be so blessed with such stores. But even so the main downtown has several little shops, and the golf course is just Dow the road from the camp grounds.
  • We stayed there several times over the years with our chapter. Very nice location on the lake with swimming area and good fishing!
