- wayfunExplorerAre you staying at the Horse Park? If so, you might need reservations if you don't already have them. If you like horses that area is the place to be. There are some interesting distilleries just west of Lexington in Frankfort. When will you be in Lex? I live in the Lexington area.
Dennis - Jim_ShoeExplorerLexington also has Keeneland Racetrack, which is absolutely beautiful and their racing schedule is different than Churchill Downs.
- TachdriverExplorerThere are a lot of distilleries from LEX and LOU that you can visit, some been in business far before prohibition and craft small batches. There is quite a history and legacy.
If you are camping try Natural Bridge and Mammoth cave. - lenrExplorer IIIDo the bourbon trail or parts of it even if not bourbon drinkers—there is always stuff going on at distilleries. Take the paid bus tour of breeding stables from the Kentucky horse park—tons of information on the horse breeding industry.
- mockturtleExplorer IIWe stayed at the Kentucky Horse Farm Park in Lexington and enjoyed driving around viewing the beautiful horse farms in the area.
- troll3193ExplorerMammoth cave of course, but this is a very interesting piece of history too

Also make sure to check out a chain of pie places called the pie kitchen. Yum! - atomlinsonExplorerWhile in Louisville or Lexington, you will be about an hour and a half south of the Cincinnati area, which has tons to do, including professional sports teams and a brand new casino in downtown Cincy. Louisville has some great nightlife, the Louisville Slugger museum, and The Cincinnati Reds Triple-A team is also there. Lexington has the Kentucky Horse Park of course.
- charmingExplorerLexington has some of the top racing stables in the US. It was the home of Secretariat and other great horses.
Louisville is the home of Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. It has a wonderful museum - interactive with lots of things for kids and adults.
Don't forget, Louisville is the birthplace of Muhammed Ali and the home of the Muhammed Ali museum. If you're into baseball, Louisville is the home of the Louisville Slugger and the Louisville Slugger museum.
Check out the visitor's guides and the Visitor info center for both cities. - gboppExplorerMaybe Roadside America will have something that interests you and your family.
