Location plays a big part. If I'm near the coast and want a nice site with a view I'll pay for it. Camping locally, usually at state parks keeps the cost down. I don't need lots of amenities, I just want to camp. I have found a COE campground that I really like, and I'm heading back there again this week, at $32 a night. That's high for me, but the campground is great and it's not far so I don't spend as much on gas.
