APT,
Don't you RV/camp all of the month of October and early November in Michigan? It fabulous and when the leaves are turned in the U.P. and the Northern Lower Peninsula. Leaves don't fall along the lakeshore until in November mostt all years. The Lower Fall SP CG in Tahquamenon SP is open all year and so is Platte River CG in Sleeping Bear Dunes Lakeshore NP along with many others. The summer warmed Great Lakes water heat is blown by the wind over the land and it's usually very pleasant temps anywhere near (20 miles or so) of the lakeshore. Living at Grand Haven, we experience very pleasat warm mostly sunny Falls. We've been doing the late Fall and winter camping yearly since the late 1960's and really love it.
The shipping season on the Great Lakes doesn't stop until about the end of January each year thanks to the warmed water. We get around 180 to 190 ships here each year and their coming and going is published in our news paper constantly so the gobs of people can go see them as some are 800' plus long and quite a sight only 50 to 100 yards away going by.
BTW, most Michigan SP CGs in the U.P. are $21 to $24 with 30A electric and 50A is $2 to $3 more. Many in the L.P. also but usually not those on the Great Lakes Shoreline.
