U.P. for me means the Lake Superior shore and iron mining country around Marquette, so I don't have references for other parts of the U.P. In Marquette I like the Travel Park close to the Superior shore.
All of the above. Summer insects can be relentless, even with repellant. Lived in Marquette for two years in the early '80's - make sure you get real pasties when in the UP. I know you have your areas picked out but if you've not already been there, Tahquamenon Falls - don't miss it. And from Munising take an excursion by boat to see Pictured Rocks in the early evening to sunset. Spectacular.
