- 2oldmanExplorer IIEver get vaccinated?
- rockylarsonExplorerI don't know about Progresso, but I am surprised you can still find a stateside physician that will give you an antibiotic for a common cold.
- westernrvparkowExplorerYou do realize that penicillin and other antibiotics are completely ineffective treating any viral condition, including flu and the common cold? Over prescribing antibiotics by physicians (usually because the patient demands the doctor give them something) has led to the rise in antibiotic resistant bacterial infections. Plus taking an antibiotic will also kill billions of helpful and necessary bacteria in your body which will effectively weaken your immune response, not strengthen it. You penicillin shots are a waste of money at best and likely harmful.
- John_JoeyExplorerIn Mexico it seems like if you have the money, someone will have the time. All you got to do is ask.
- Ed_GeeExplorer IIWestern RV Park owner has it right. The original poster is one of the reasons all antibiotics are becoming ineffective against so many mutated bacteria.
- 5thwheeleroldmaExplorerYes, I know colds are caused by rhinovirus. The bacterial infections begin after a few days, this is what kills you (pneumonia),some more subject than others. The reason antibiotics are becoming ineffective mostly the livestock industry is permitted to feed antibiotics in animal feed, on the chance they might get sick; I understand this in more than 90% of the problem. The other problem is no new antibiotics, not enough research.
Ask a simple question, not answered BTW, and a bunch of nervous nellies spouting off what they do not know.
thanks for nothing, guys. - azrvingExplorercatch every cold going around and with side effects
Not speaking for OP but this may mean that it starts out as what seems like a "cold" and before long moves to the throat and then the lungs. The first stages may be viral but after the mucous membranes are inflamed and open a bacterial infection can set in. That's why the cold weather cant cause a common cold but it and other irritants can irritate the mucus membranes which leads to bacterial infection.
Bacterial infection produces yellow/green nasal discharge and coughing mucus at which time for me never clears up until antibiotics are used. If you are blowing your nose and it's clear this is usually common cold and antibiotics are of no use.
At the earliest signs of sinus problems I start taking musonx D, Iprotropium Bromide nasal spray, aspirn and hot towels on my face and head.
I went through 30 years of constantly recurring sinus, throat, chest infections which ended up with green/yellow discharge and trip to dr and a scrip. I went for allergy tests, homeopathic and on and on, spending thousands of dollars when in the end it was second hand smoke causing it.
I have used and some people have good preventive maintenance results with sinus irrigation with products such as Neilmed. Be absolutely sure to follow the directions as far as water quality. OP, always see a doctor but try to learn as much about your condition as you can so you can manage it as best as possible and avoid any prescription drugs. You may have key triggers that start the process. - azrvingExplorerOp
I was typing and drinking my coffee while you had posted. I hope some of I posted may help you. - 2gypsies1Explorer IIIHave you had your Pneumonia shot? Flu shot? Shingles shot? Those are important, also.
- TomG2ExplorerThe nice thing about being retired is that I can now let my body heal itself in seven days instead of pumping it full of drugs to make it better in a week.
